RE: GP Minnow Done

One additional mod I did was to add a cover to the left side of the cowling. I believe I made it out of some clear plastic lying around and it really seemed to resolve the overheating issues I was...

RE: GP Minnow Done

I have the same setup with my Minnow. I clocked it with a 12x6 at 133mph. Curiously, when I tried 11x8 and 11x9 props, I didn't percieive much difference in speed (although I didn't clock it). I...

RE: Reaction 54 Jet Kit

Here's an image of our R54. The underside is solid red. All together, is very easy to distinguish orientation.

RE: Reaction 54 Jet Kit

Had the maiden flight on my R54 in early Jan07 on a 700 ft runway and got the turbine waiver in order. Just flew it this weekend off our 300 foot runway in Tucson. First landing, I used no more...

RE: King Kobra

Let me know if you still need the CG for the King Kobra. When I get home tonight, I'll look it up on the plans/manual.

RE: Great Planes Seawind

alans,

How is the balance on the prop? I ended up using an MA 14x9 cut to a 13x9 to get it the Saito 125 in the proper RPM range. I'm turning about 9300 at full throttle now. The first time...

RE: Jett powered anyone?

Actually, I don't fly hard crashed receivers. When you think of how much time/money you have in these rascals, it's just not worth it. They just become bench equipment or go in a boat in the pool. ...

RE: Jett powered anyone?

Ah, my Magnums.

The first was clear cut. First flight, I roll out, trim up and turn back in. A sudden uncommanded pitch up followed by the wing separating from the fuse. The wing was wholly...

RE: Great Planes Seawind

Alans,

I have a Saito 125 on mine too. I've only flown it off of water. My first takeoff was with no flaps and it really stuck to the water. This was compounded by having the low rate...

RE: SIG KOUGAR VIDEO

I have a King Kobra with a Jett 90LX. It is one of my favorite planes! (I have an old Kougar with an OS61 and Jett Muffler as well). When that dreaded day comes, I have 3 King Kobra and 3 Kougar...

RE: Great Planes Seawind

Yeah, it looks like the 100 is about 70 grams lighter than the 125. My Bad. Notwithstanding, I still think the 125 is a great match for the SeaWind.

RE: Great Planes Seawind

This plane was in no way overpowered with the Saito-125 (my opinion). The 125 is a good bit lighter than the 100 also.

RE: Great Planes Seawind

I broke the engine in on an MA 13x8 (3 blade). For flight, I cut an MA 14x9 to a 13x9. Max RPM is ~10,500 with 15% Omega fuel. Getting the prop balanced was a bit time consuming as this was my...

RE: Great Planes Seawind

If you're going to do the S-100, go for the S-125. More power and lighter. Mine works great!

RE: magnum.... airplane?

Hi Rmenke,

Isn't the 200mph limit only for turbines?

RE: Seawind Flight Report

Augie,

Did you have much water accumulation without the bailer? I have mine installed but I would like to be able to disable it if necessary, something like a cork stuffed into it.

RE: Great Planes Seawind

At both outboard tips of the Aluminum wing joiner on the top surface, you want something increase the height of the wing joiner to take up the play, kind of a shim. I merely glued some 1/64" ply and...

RE: Great Planes Seawind

I CA'd a few ~1" strips of 1/64" plywood to the Aluminum wing joiner. Two on the outboard top, two on the inboard bottom. They were sanded as required to prevent binding during wing installation...

RE: Great Planes Seawind

Am nearing the end of my SeaWind build. Attached the wings and noticed that there is a bit of vertical play in the channel to aluminum crossmember support interface in both wings. Was wondering if...

RE: Patriot XL and wing sheeting

My PatXL was built to plan but nylon tape/epoxied the center section. Consistently run mid 140's on radar. Highest recorded speed was 157mph with a fair tailwind. I've pulled pretty hard in a full...
