RE: help with tree rescue

I found out that PVC bends quite a bit. If there's little to no wind, a few helium balloons works pretty well.

MW Super Stearman

Hey everyone-

I've been sitting on this kit for a few years and I think it's time to get started. I'd like to not have to add much weight to the nose, so I'll be using an OS FS-120SIII and...

RE: Mini-Funtana Question

Here's my mount for the Himax 2816-0890. It will tear through the firewall and the frame behind it without sustaining damage. At least the first one I made did... Anyway, I think the ply is 3/32"....

RE: Sepulveda Basin

Dawn patrol is hitting it before or just as the sun is rising.. No crowds and usually the best conditions of the day.

Which solder joints look like FACTORY joints?

Roger - to respond to your first paragraph, it's a bad rework job. Regardless of who did it, it's unacceptable workmanship, and judging by the amount of work done, it's shotgun troubleshooting. The...

Which solder joints look like FACTORY joints?

That's pretty bad. Based on the short lead length and the solder over the lead ends I'd say it was a reflow rather than a replacement. The white residue on the left looks like wicking tracks. The...

Tinting canopys

I tinted my SE canopy with black RIT and it turned out just fine. I didn't measure the temperature, but it was too hot to leave my hand in and not hot enough to burn me. (135-140F ?)

10X compatable receivers

LF - I agree. I think that pulse-width discrimination would be more robust though, since it would handle spurious interference.

Simple pulse-width discrimination can be accomplished using a...

10X compatable receivers

Fail-safe in a PPM system could be done easily using pulse-widtch discrimination for error detection. There are a number of ways you could hold last position without going digital. My supposition...

Cell Phones ?

I wouldn't worry about it.. Mobiles are a lot lower in power than they were even in the early to mid 90's. The old brick phones would do a watt, the analog pocket-sized portables peaked at 400mW,...

Ever had a problem when swapping crystals?

I've always held the belief that it's easier to make rules than it is to educate the masses.

Case in point - I frequented a factory in a company I worked at where it was mandatory to wear...

Wondering how the 9C (9CHP) looks inside?

Yep. And once you've worked on 30 or so you could do it blindfolded and drunk.

OTOH, working on multicard chassis' using wirewrap of all the same color was intimidating sometimes. I wasn't sorry...

building a better gps

The resolution of GPS is much higher than what those garmin units will show. There used to be a built-in error with civilian GPS units, but I believe that the government has declassified the...

Busted antenna on a futaba pcm receiver

You can. Tower has futaba antennas. Or you can use a 39 inch length of 28 to 30 gauge stranded copper wire.

If it has a channel sticker on it, you can just cut it in half at the seam. For the...

FM or PCM Whats the diff

I'm pretty sure this is a signed integer value. That would give it a three bit resolution with the MSB indicating + or -. This is plenty for difference data given the rate of change, servo speed,...

Tell me it aint so

You didn't say what type of adapter it was. Some wall-warts have a bleeder resistor across the filter cap to discharge the output voltage once the adapter is unplugged. This is easy to check. ...

super turbo (or) sirrius pro plus

zero244 - Thanks. :) When I get home, everything goes on charge at once. The HP supply I have goes into the flight box battery, the Sirius runs off the flight box battery, and the Dymond runs off...

super turbo (or) sirrius pro plus

Here's a size comparison. FWIW, in spite of it's lack of versatility compared the the Dymond, I use the Sirius more often.

super turbo (or) sirrius pro plus

They're good at different things. The Sirius is good for taking to the field, plugging into your TX and RX simultaneously, and forgetting about it. The 1A limitation of the Sirius doesn't seem...

I have both of them. There might be a problem with the Sirius charging hi-capapacity NiMH RX packs on the TX port. There are two separate charging circuits and they are different. I can't say for...

Futaba TX switch broke

I did warranty repair once upon a time. Not for RC stuff, but for recording studio and sound reinforcement gear. While I was doing it, I'd never have said this, but now that I'm out of it, I'll let...
