I repaired the nose by taping it all back together and adding a layer of glass cloth and epoxy to the inside. I also replaced the O.S. .61 with a Magnum .91 and a Jett muffler..

RE: PHOENIX MODELS F-20 TIGERSHARK ?

Sorry, but increasing the voltage by 25% also increases the current draw by 25%. Ohm's Law says so. You should increase the battery capacity by 25% to make up for the extra current draw.

RE: THE NEW CERMARK F-16 BUILD IT BETTER, STRONGER, AND FASTER!!!

Actually, Rick's earlier posts were correct when he said the CG should be 7.5 inches. He did mess up on the one just before mine.

You need to make the initial flights at 7.5 inches. When you...

RE: PHOENIX MODELS F-20 TIGERSHARK ?

That 12x5 prop explains why it wasn't going as fast as I thought it should have been. Also, the rpm's weren't as high as I would have expected on an 11x6. The in-flight rpm I calculated from the...

Using the doppler frequencies I've measured in the video above, I estimate its ground speed to be about 100 mph. The approaching frequency is about...

RE: THE NEW CERMARK F-16 BUILD IT BETTER, STRONGER, AND FASTER!!!

My Cermark F-18 and F-16 V3 prop jets both came with air up/air down retracts.

RE: THE NEW CERMARK F-16 BUILD IT BETTER, STRONGER, AND FASTER!!!

Yeah, that looked pretty sluggish alright. It would have been nice if I could have heard the engine instead of that crappy, loud music..

RE: THE NEW CERMARK F-16 BUILD IT BETTER, STRONGER, AND FASTER!!!

Sounds to me like you have a crappy OS 91FX. A 13x8 or 13x9 will load the motor more and turn less rpm than the 12x8; therefore, you will go slower. Try less diameter and/or more pitch. Put a tach...

RE: THE NEW CERMARK F-16 BUILD IT BETTER, STRONGER, AND FASTER!!!

Ah, now I know why your engine didn't sound like a Jett 90LX in your video. It's that 13x10 prop! According to Jett's website, your engine has the shorter muffler and higher port timing. It...

RE: PHOENIX MODELS F-20 TIGERSHARK ?

Set the low speed needle for a reliable idle. After letting it idle for 15-30 seconds, open the throttle. If it hesitates, but sounds smooth, it's too lean. Open the idle needle a little and try...

RE: PHOENIX MODELS F-20 TIGERSHARK ?

It sounded too lean to me during takeoff. Set the high speed needle for max rpm with the plane sitting on the ground and then back it out a little (maybe an 1/8 of a turn). Then pick the plane up...

RE: PHOENIX MODELS F-20 TIGERSHARK ?

Looks pretty nice. Reminds me of the T-38's they used to fly.

I'd cut the control horn screws off with dikes and file them down flush.. ;-)

RE: PHOENIX MODELS F-20 TIGERSHARK ?

You might try an APC 10x7 Sport prop. I've read they appear to have a little more pitch than a Master Airscrew prop of the same size. Or, perhaps it's because they're more rigid and hold their...

What brand and style of 12x8 are you running? Not all 12x8's are created equal..

RE: CERMARK F-18 HORNET, BUILT IT BETTER, STRONGER, AND FASTER!

My Cermark F-18 does strange things when I give it top rudder during knife-edge. I would never attempt to spin it, even though Cermark says it will. In my opinion, the rudders might as well be...

RE: CERMARK F-18 HORNET, BUILT IT BETTER, STRONGER, AND FASTER!

Back before FM radios came along, it was absolutely necessary to avoid metal-to-metal contact in control linkages. The RFI from the metal parts rubbing together would kill an AM radio. Today's FM...

RE: CERMARK F-18 HORNET, BUILT IT BETTER, STRONGER, AND FASTER!

My stabs have maybe a 1/16" of wiggle in them at neutral. I haven't noticed any flutter; however, I balanced my stabs using a Dubro prop balancer. I used Z bends at the servo wheel and ball links...

RE: THE NEW CERMARK F-16 BUILD IT BETTER, STRONGER, AND FASTER!!!

RE: THE NEW CERMARK F-16 BUILD IT BETTER, STRONGER, AND FASTER!!!

No problem here. We're just having a healthy discussion... :D

I've actually been convinced to mount remote needles on the firewall, something I probably wouldn't have tried on my own.
