RE: Anyone Flying SK engines?

Most people know that David Gierke from RC M is one of the best known experts on glow engines in the world. This is a word for word excerpt from one of his columns. Model Airplane News, Apr 2002 by...

RE: Anyone Flying SK engines?

Are you kidding me?
Are you trying to tell us that the cylinder, covered with cooling fins, with 50 times the cooling surface area, pummeled by 80-100 mile per hour wind from the prop blast, runs...

RE: Anyone Flying SK engines?

For those of you who are not familiar with the term hypereutectic allow me to explain.
This point of saturation in aluminum is known as the eutectic and occurs when the silicon level reaches 12%....

RE: Anyone Flying SK engines?

I don't know the answer to that Turk.
I do know that pistons expand more than the cylinder with heat and if you over heat an engine the piston will seize in the cylinder until the engine cools.
I...

RE: Anyone Flying SK engines?

Turk
“Pinch" is an interference fit between the piston and the cylinder in non ringed engines. You can have taper without an interference fit, they do it on motorcycles all the time. If you take...

RE: Anyone Flying SK engines?

People should read all of Xjet's posts on SK engines epically in this thread, http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_4562154/mpage_1/key_/tm.htm
It makes his perspective clear.

RE: Anyone Flying SK engines?

I agree with spad4mebaby and Ed Moorman.
I have two SK-50's both run great. On APC 12/5 with 15% wildcat they both turn 12,000+ static.
There are at least 15 more flying locally with more on the...

RE: SK ENGINES

Sorry I bow to the guru of nitro.
I don't know whats wrong with me, I should have surmised you would know everything there is to know, far more than the factory that makes it, and still managed to...

RE: SK ENGINES

Glad to see you followed the break in procedures and are under propping the engine, way to get the most from it.
the factory recommends a 14/8 -15/6, with a little luck maybe you can blow it up and...

RE: SK ENGINES

The only thing Xjet said that I agree with is don't use a tuned pipe for 3-D.
I don't know whats wrong with his engine, maybe he broke it in wrong, maybe he can't tune, or maybe it's just lame, but...

RE: SK ENGINES

I own a couple SK50's a 70 a 90 and a 110.
The only problem I ever had with any of them was a low speed needle in the 90.
My 50 will turn an APC 12/5 just a bit over 12,300 on 15% wildcat.
The...

RE: Which Engine?

Dar, thats what I was trying to say in my post.
Thats why I spun one prop at 12,000 and the other at 12,800, so they would both consume the same horsepower.
I thought that would approximate the...

RE: Which Engine?

Select the engine that best fits the model you are flying and how you want to fly it.
If you take two APC type propellers lets say an 11/7 and a 12/6
If you spin a 12/6 at 12,000 RPM it will...

RE: unidentified brsion engine

I also have a blue 2.4 that I got from Gary back in the 90's and blue 3.2 I got around 2002. The 2.4 looks exactly like the one outssider has in the picture.
Look at the exhaust bolts, if they go...

RE: Prop nut torque specs?

I think you should contact the manufacturer of the propeller.
17 foot/pounds with a 3/8 X 24 nut would crush a zinger wood prop to splinters.
It would probably deform a master plastic and would...

RE: SK ENGINES

hey Cambo, if your fuel tank isn't on the C.G. could it be the fuel sloshing to the front of the tank and the pick-up sucking bubbles?

RE: OS 75 AX Why would I buy one?

I can think of a couple of reasons to by a 75 over a 91.
What if you don't have prop clearance for a 91
What if your limited to a 10oz or smaller fuel tank.
For the most part I agree with Ed...

RE: Hint for seting up a 3-d plane

You need a minimum of 45-degrees of elevator, anything less will not force the airframe through the stall fast enough, and instead of a wall you get a snap roll.
Ailerons should be at least 40-...
