75cc YAK54 cg

Well, I now have 10 flights on my new AW 75cc Yak. I can not say enough great things about this airplane. First of all, the looks are awesome. I spruced it up with graphics from bad brad graphics....

75cc YAK radio setup questions

Guys, I just purchased an AW 75cc YAK. I intend to put a 3w 80xi on it with a 2 cell lipo (what capacity? 1500Mah?) for ignition.

I have a Futaba 14 MZ with the G3 reciever. I intend to use...

RE: AeroWorks Edge 540T 46-60?

I had an AW edge 540 with the Saito 125 and a 16x6 apc. This thing was awesom! I got about 90 flights on the thing before the motor quit unexpectedly in a hover at about 10 feet. Fuse is now broke...

RE: Cannot get wings to stop rocking!!

OK, some thoughts....The first thing I would try is an inverted harrier. If your wings do not rock in an inverted harrier, then I suspect that the wing incidence is off a bit. It sounds like the...

RE: Side Force Generators

No, I didn't miss this point, I just though I had already over simplified this duscussion. Guess we'll just keep simplifying. Yes, your correct that the second two airplanes need...

RE: Cross-section of a circular fan-in-wing design

I've been working on a similar vehicle. Have you thought of adding lat and long cyclic to the fan, then using a few vanes to control yaw.

More blades=more static thrust = more hp required. ...

RE: Side Force Generators

That's smart! Lets get DARPA or AFRL or NASA to fund us to flight test these things. I will supply the intertial avionics, and actuator position sensors, telemetry and software to spit out...

RE: Side Force Generators

Lets start over...a directionally stable airplane is flying straight and level. It gets shot with a gust of crosswind from the left (pilots view). this plane reacts with a negative yaw rate...

RE: Side Force Generators

no, the plane does know something about headwind and crosswind...it reacts to changes in these parameters (i though I already said this) Again, airplane s&c is NOT all steady state although the...

RE: Side Force Generators

Yes, I was invisioning, for example, flying into a headwind, then making a turn such that now you are in a crosswind and your airplane now has some crab angle (since you aren't holding any rudder). ...

RE: Side Force Generators

ok, to clear up...the term destabilizing does not imply "ruin" the stability, but just make it less stable. I don't think anyone here argues that SF generators do this. Less stable is often good,...

RE: Side Force Generators

one more thing, I believe you that those little buggers work well. my question is...what do they work well at accomplishing? 1, destabilizing the airplane directionally 2, decreasing the sideforce...

RE: Side Force Generators

Dick, I'm having trouble following you. The airplane can be blown sideways. It just takes wind.
When crabbing, you are aiming a component of force (propulsion system) to oppose the wind force. ...

RE: Side Force Generators

side force generators are de-stabilizing directionally. The neat thing is that, with SF generators, you can destabilize the aircraft directionally without affecting the longitudinal stability. For...

RE: True airspeed sensor

Yeah, I can't believe we didn't hit a few Joshua trees.

I just had a thought...I suspect it is very difficult to measure very low airspeeds with sonar. For example, if you are trying to...

Besides the rotation problem, I think I would rip those things off about once a weekend on the landings.

RE: True airspeed sensor

Hey TallPaul, I just noticed you hav a picture of KU's SAE 2003 plane on your website! I was on that design team and piloted for KU from 2003-2004 in both east and west coast comps. We won the east...

RE: True airspeed sensor

well, I don't know squat about lasers (except i don't think I can get one at radioshack), but I do know that speed of sound depends on altitude (T), so corrections would have to be made when using...

RE: True airspeed sensor

Yes, that is correct. Start with TAS and work backwords. One benefit is that static presure doesn't have to be measured. This sensor could be very small, and could be used on micro UAVs...

TallPaul is right. I got screwed up here[&o] This is an example of how to get severely confused with all these speeds.

RE: True airspeed sensor

I see what you are saying,

q=1/2*Density@sealevel*IAS^2 This assumes IAS doesn't have compressibility effects
or
q=1/2 *actual density*TAS^2

So pilots probably like IAS because...
