Loose muffler screws

The previous post is right on. No matter how much you tighten them the vibration of the engine running will cause them to loosen and the muffler to fall off. Sometime the cowl prevents the bolts from...

Century 21 Fabric problems

I have used this material on several large projects. I seal the material around all the edges first with the iron just hot enough to make it stick and not worrying about the wrinkles much. Once the...

ST 3000 Smoke

I use a smoke muffler which has internal heating coils before the smoke (50/50 ATF & Diesel) is injected into the muffler which is on a ST 3250. The pump I use is the TME system and the result is...

I have a 1/4 scale Balsa USA cub with a ST 2000 installed. I dod it mostlly to get the c.g. right but it flys great. Mounted sideways and sticks out for easy access. I cut the fiberglass cowl in half...

Plane suggestions for Pegasus 240

Thanks for the idea's, I have a 1/3 scale Pitts, the old Pilot model and don't want to go that way again, but did give it some thought. Is the 1/3 Spacewalker a good flyer, because that's as...

Suggests for new engine

I recently acquired a four cylinder, four stoke Pegasus engine from O.S. but its only the 240 model (2.43 cu in). Any suggestions for an aircraft where I can show this beauty off? I already have a...

Smoke Oil

Very simple, 50/50 diesel and Automatic Transmission Fluid. Cheap enough and produces good quality smoke. :D

Smoke tank location

I prefer to install directly on the C.G. The reason for this is as the smoke fluid gets used there will be no change in the handling of the aircraft. Seems simple to say, not always as easy to do....

ATF

ATF stands for automatic transmission fluid. I use the 50/50 mix stuff with diesel in my Pitts and get good smoke. I use the red type ATF. Good luck. Cheers, Tom. :)

Inverted ST 3000

I agree with Rcpilet. I mounted a ST 3250 inverted in my Pitts. Every time the engine was shut off, the oil ran into the glow plug and it wouldn't restart. I have on-board glow and that wasn't...

Smoke recipe

I just use 50/50 diesel and automatic transmission fluid. It seems to work fine, can't exactly run to the LHS down here in NZ. Whether it will work with gas engines I don't know (I fly ST 3250) but...

Pitts photo's

I have a Pilot model Pitts which is 1/3 scale and finished in white with red and blue trim and red lines along the fuselage. I modelled mine after the ad for fuel in MAN. I do have photo's but will...

Bisson Mufflers

I use Bisson's and Slim Lines on several Super Tigers (2000's & a 3250) and always block off one stack. Seems to be the only way to get decent transition because otherwise there is to little pressure...

Jig for cutting hinge slots

I clamp my GP hinge cutting tool to my workmate on its side. This give the cutters a fixed distance above the surface. Then using shims of balsa I work out a combination so the middle of the wing,...

Smoke

I have used the 50/50 Diesel and Automatic Transmission Fluid for smoke and it seems to work fine. Here in NZ you can't run up to the LHS and buy off the shelf stuff. I suggest you try some and then...

Covering used

Tried Monocoat, loved the look but got tired of picking up the shredded pieces when I had a prang. Now use 21st Century, like the way it goes on for compound corners, looks scale (on a Pitts and Cub...

Anyone Build a Stampe?

I will check the 1/4 scale Tiger Moth that is also partly built for the angle of incidence on each wing. These are similar planes maybe someone can confirm the angles they utilise. Cheers, Tom. :)

Stampe Building

Checked all over the plans last night and found no reference to angle of incidence for either wing. I then measured the angles and as best I could see they were 5 degrees positive. Not believing this...

1/3 Pitts Balance Point

Just in case anyone is interested, I rechecked the balance point (c.g.) on my Pilot Pitts using the MAN procedure. This moved the c.g. up 37 mm (1 1/2") from where it was indicated on the plans. A...

Stampe Building

The wing panels build okay, but mine have 1/16" thick rib, not particularly durable in my opinion. When you get the wing done it does seem strong and light. I'm not a fan of the 'blind' ribs and...

1/3 Pitts Balance

Yes, I have moved enough items forward to shift the c.g. about 1/2" forward from orginal position. This will be attempt # 2 which I hope will cure most of the poor flying habits. Thanks for the...

1/3 Pitts Balance

C.G. trouble during 1st flight of a Pilot 1/3 scale (old kit, long time to build) indicating a need to move it forward. Has anyone ever casted some lead to fit inside the Super Tiger radial mount?...
