RE: Rocket assisted take off

I put a D-size motor on a .15-size Lanier Shrike a few years ago. It was for an in-flight speed boost though, not for take-off...should work about the same though. You can modify an old servo motor...

RE: The New 4D PPS from Ikarus

Finally got my setup in the air today, and it is so cool!! One note though-
HS-55 servos may not be up to par as a pitch servo. Mine stripped its gears and let the motor over-rev, which caused...

RE: Anyone flying the OMP Variable pitch unit yet?

The supplied motor is enough power for vertical (in both directions) hovering and climbing, with a 3-cell pack. The PPS is definitely less efficient than a standard prop because of the lack of...

RE: The New 4D PPS from Ikarus

Got mine in the mail today, and started putting it together. The prop kit comes with a plastic hollow shaft, but I think the best thing to do for your motor is to find some 1/8" OD stainless steel...

RE: The New 4D PPS from Ikarus

It arrived at home today, and has been forwarded on to me here in CA. Who knows how long that will be...hopefully mid-week. I'll post pictures as soon as I fly.

RE: The New 4D PPS from Ikarus

MalaysianFlyer,

Give them a call to get things straightened out the fastest. I was supposed to be on the first batch that came in, but never received anything. I sent a few emails but got no...

RE: why "never" single aileron control....??

I've had to fly/land a DDust with only one elevon before, trust me, NOT a fun time. (The other elevon servo's signal wire broke off of the circuit board and it locked in the full up position.) [X(]...

RE: My Shocky Yak Setup

I'm also getting a Shocky Yak, only with OMP's PPS instead of Hobby Lobby's EVP. Should be interesting to see how the two variable pitch setups differ...

RE: Flying in the Clouds with the Diversity Receiver

What kind of setup (Tx, antenna) do you have on your plane? Also, what are you doing as far as vibration isolation for the camera? From the video, it seems you have the ideal setup with no image...

RE: digital servo pulse-width range?

I got a JR DS 8231 servo and tested it to see if it would give 180 degree movement like the analog servos that I tested did. The digital servo would simply turn off (as if I had unplugged it) if I...

RE: Air-to-Air Shots

The autopilots are Cloud Cap Technology Piccolos. We got the aircraft together by sending them the same dynamic flight plan that flies the planes in a circuit, passing through the 4 green dots on...

RE: Air-to-Air Shots

Here's a little demo the research group I work in did last summer...we had 10 minutes of air-to-air video. Of course, autopilots help out a lot. ;) Doing this by hand reliably would be really...

digital servo pulse-width range?

I'm making a pan-tilt setup for an onboard camera, and I'd like to use digital servos to more accurate positioning, and also have at least 180 degrees of panning rotation. I've been messing around...

Aerosonde makes a UAV that has your type of tail configuration...here's a gallery that has a few snapshots of that plane plus other UAVs: UAV gallery

Looking for a host club for a few days in January

Hey guys, I was wondering if someone could help out our group. I'm a part of a UAV research group at MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology). We've recently transitioned to our 2nd-generation...

RE: DD Questions

Did you use MonoKote to cover your Dust by any chance? My 2nd Dust is covered with MonoKote and it also wooshed...retightening the covering stopped it somewhat. It's caused by the 130MPH+ wind...

RE: Which should I buy? Whiplash or Dust??

My (2nd) Dust weighs 2 lbs 14 oz with digital metal geared servos and a Jett 46 in the nose.

As for build time, it will take you longer to cover than it takes to frame it up... 6 ribs, 2...

RE: K&B 6.5 RE RI on my Diamond Dust

Master Airscrew props aren't the most efficient props...especially for airplanes looking for maximum speed. Try to get ahold of some APC props; I bet you'll notice a difference!

RE: Diamond Dust Maiden Flight

Rudeboy, how fast do you consider to be 'high speed'? I've had 2 Dusts, one with an MVVS FAI GRRT 40 and my current one has a Jett 46. When I built the one with the Jett, I built in pitot tubes and...

RE: Diamond Dust Maiden Flight

The real question is if you came through the radar from a big long dive, or was it a level run? Equations are great, but they don't take full-power dives into account. ;) 200mph from a power dive I...

RE: Rocket assist airplane

RE: E-flite Motor Specs?

Funny that most of those Park 370 numbers given by Horizon have amperages out of the motors' spec'd range of 6A and 8A max for the 4100 and 5400 respectively....and yes, they do get REALLY hot, even...
