I had a similar issue when I crossed over some power lines and started to bring the DF down (so the power lines were inbetween me and the DF) - it dropped like a rock - no damage, I just re-armed it...

Everything is subjective - I don't think DF is a bad company to deal with at all. While there are people posting in this thread that they have had issues - there are several posts in this forum...

Check to see if your capacitor has a short against the metal motor housing (or any of the other connections for that matter). I had a smoking motor once due to this.
