RE: Has anyone tried a Chinook?

I should have read a couple of posts previous. Much better explanation than mine! I start my RL progression in 3 weeks!

RE: Has anyone tried a Chinook?

Dave, you are almost there. When you change the angle of the rotor head, you are vectoring the air flow created from the rotor system. If you think about it this way, it is much easier to...

RE: dual turbine

If anyone wants to build a twin turbine helicopter, I think the Chinook would be a prime candidate. The turbines could be mounted in the scale locations. The only problem with this would be the...

RE: Has anyone tried a Chinook?

That's pretty impressive. Did you see the ramp door? Very nice. I think that's a bit bigger than I plan on building. When you think about all of the mechanics, that size actually seems more...

RE: Has anyone tried a Chinook?

I read that flight fax article. Those are some lucky guys as they recovered so low to the ground. The pilots reports are amazing from that flight. If I remember correctly, they had picked the...

RE: Has anyone tried a Chinook?

Well, you are partially correct, but the intent is correct. The ground resonance in the video occurs because the aircraft is chained down too tightly. This prevented the struts from functioning...

RE: Has anyone tried a Chinook?

That is a nice looking bird. I could the different pitch of the rotor systems when it when it was in a turn...just like the real one. A lot of mixing going on inside that thing!

RE: Can you start a heli's blades mid-air?

What was he flying that was 20,ooo+ lbs? I have noticed that the heavier the aircraft, the faster you have to drop the collective because the force of gravity will bleed off rotor RPM oh so fast! ...

RE: Can you start a heli's blades mid-air?

Oh yeah, I haven't seen the movie you're referencing, so I don't really know what happened. I was talking about the re-start as if you had a flame out or something like that in flight.....in most...

RE: Can you start a heli's blades mid-air?

I've never flown piston heli's, but I have heard it's no fun compared to turbine. I guess I'm spoiled that way. I have heard horror stories about the TH-55's and manually using the throttle to...

RE: Can you start a heli's blades mid-air?

As far as re-starting inflight, it can be done. As stated above, rotor RPM is the single most crucial instrument to watch when doing autos. If rotor RPM goes too high, you overspeed and if it goes...

RE: MY HOMEBUILT HELICOPTER

TFF, I've seen that video....that guy was just plain stupid. I think his instructor was late and he decided to just try it himself! When I was in primary, we all solo'd in a Bell 206 at about 16...

RE: Update: Scale Hydroplane Build Thread

I'm tempted to just trade you my camera for some boat stuff! No big deal on the delay, anyway....I'm busy with another boat right now. At least I'm done flying nights....that will kill you. I...

RE: Proboat Miss Budweiser 1/12 – Awesome!

I have done several mods to my miss 1/12 miss bud and have given up. It's mostly the engine that I'm frustrated with, that Dynamite .15. I've decided to stick with Gas boats and sell this little...

RE: Miss Elam BLOOPER!!

I think you are talking about the corrosion-X stuff. Works wonders with electronics when combined inadvertently with water.

RE: Update: Scale Hydroplane Build Thread

Digital cameras are nice.....use your camera phone....if it's a Motorola, I can send you software to transfer phone pictures to your computer and then go the opposite.

RE: 1/8 miss Bud turn fin

The fin is nice. How does it work for you? I didn't see any follow-ups about its performance. I'm thinking about making one myself as I can't find any that will fit. Any suggestions would be...

RE: Update: Scale Hydroplane Build Thread

Thanks all for the input. I like the idea of the carbon paper and then ink pen. I'll also try the glue stick and paper, but I don't know about architects paper. I don't really have access to that...

RE: Update: Scale Hydroplane Build Thread

How are you transferring the shapes to the wood? I've had minimal luck and am curious as to how you guys are doing it. When I built planes, everything was die cut and you just fit to the plans. ...

RE: Update: Scale Hydroplane Build Thread

The "honey do" lists are killing me, too. Have a complete brake job to do this week on the wife's truck and am still flying nights. Life is rough now for a few weeks. Can't wait for a normal...

RE: Update: Scale Hydroplane Build Thread

No problem with the start date....I start flying nights this week and will be too tired to do anything. I think I need some plywood after looking at some plans. What do you use for spars?

RE: My Custom 1/8 Miss Bud

Thanks for the information. I was looking at the airfoils and was thinking of doing exactly the same thing. My experience with aircraft would lead me to angle them down, however. I would think...

RE: My Custom 1/8 Miss Bud

What angle did you use for the new airfiol on the front? Also, do you have a link to where you purchased the rudder hardware? I'm rebuilding a 1/8 Bud, also.
