Types of balsa

Hello folks,
I was looking around my ARF seeing how it is put together in case I should ever need to repair it. I have noticed that it is made with two different types of balsa-the "hard" type of...

RE: Magnum .91 RFS

The breather tube was the problem. Runs like a top. Man, these engines can scream.

RE: Magnum .91 RFS

I found a hairline crack in the crank case breather tube. I also made a new gasket. I'm thinking the breather tube was the problem. Thanks for all the help fellas!!

Magnum .91 RFS

Hello,
I have a Magnum .91 that I have put about 10 flights on. I put it in storage for the winter and have brought it back out for the summer flying season. I got it mounted and fired it up. It...

RE: Big engine starter

Thanks for all the replies.
What eventually happens is the backplate of the spinner breaks away from the backplate on the prop shaft, so the prop/spinner assembly is turning while the engine is...

Big engine starter

Hello,
I recently upgraded to an OS .75 and my original starter is not strong enough to turn the prop. I tried a tower hobbies havy duty starter and that won't do the trick either. What is a good...

RE: Magnum 91 RFS Excessive Compression

You're the second guy to mention the lawn tractor battery. I'm going to have to try it. The engine runs fine when it does run. Maybe this engine just has a lot of compression when broken in. Thanks...

RE: Magnum 91 RFS Excessive Compression

I sucked it up and bought an OS 75AX. I'm tired of the 4-stroke for a while. 90% of the problems I've had so far have been engine related, so I'm opting for the simple way.

RE: Magnum 91 RFS Excessive Compression

I was hoping a new bunch of folks would have a different take, but I guess I'll have to send it in. None of my paperwork that came with the engine tells how to send it in so I'll look that up. Oy, a...

RE: Magnum 91 RFS Excessive Compression

Hi guys,
I've done all that. In real life, I'm an aircraft mechanic so I know my way around engines, well, at least gas engines anyway. It runs smoothly with the plug out. No valve problems, crank...

RE: Magnum 91 RFS Excessive Compression

Did that. The compression is so high that the spinner backplate will break away from the crankshaft and spin the spinner and prop as a unit, while the crank doesn't turn. And I have it tight enough....

Magnum 91 RFS Excessive Compression

Hello all,
I have a 91 RFS and have been stumped. Simply stated, the compression is so excessive that my heavy duty starter cannot turn it. The valves are set correctly, the breather tube is not...

RE: Magnum 91RFS troubles

I took off the head and it doesn't have a head gasket. I assume your Magnum 91 does since you've metioned it before. Maybe Magnum forgot to install it. My heavy duty starter with 7 amp battery (fully...

RE: Magnum 91RFS troubles

Hey Jose,
I've already done that several times. Right now it is off the plane, the crankcase is off, it's been turned over by hand about 50 times, and it's still tight. I think I'm going to make a...
