Yea, the Cub cruised at 75 mph. Mr. Taylor greatly refined his design of the Cub. The Taylorcraft cruises at 100 mph on the same 65 hp motor. Mainly because the airfoil is semi symmetrical (...

Here's the Comet Taylorcraft. It is a model of the real one I had. The wood was excellent. A very nice kit for the money. Weighs 15 oz. and flies like a dream and very slow. I made the mistake of...

RE: Super Stearman Build

I have one with a Saito 170 radial. Fast low passes over the runway are fun. My favorite manuever is to dive from altitude hit the throttle and then pull up into vertical rolls. It doesn't have...

RE: The Twinstar is coming back

I have a couple of Saito 30's on other airplanes, so I have some idea of their power.

I have Saito 40's on the Twinstar. I think the 30's would fly it fine, but I like the added margin of...

RE: The Twinstar is coming back

Had my first engine out experience today. Fuel line came off the right engine inlet nipple. The Twinstar handled fine with just rthe left engine, but it sank faster that I expected on the...

RE: Flair Puppeteer Trust Angles

Bassman,

The 3/32" tail skid has held up fine for seven years now. Your Pup is looking good.

I'm glad there are still people out there who have the patience to build a plane like this. ...

RE: Flair Puppeteer Trust Angles

I used a wire skid sewn to a piece of plywood in the shape of an isocosles (sp?) triangle. To me, a tailwheel just doesn't look right on a WWI airplane.

Besides, the ground handling is fine...

RE: The Twinstar is coming back

Carlos,

I checked my rudder throw, and sure enough, it was only 1/2". The manual calls for 3/4" low rate and 7/8" high rate. No wonder it didn't have much rudder authority.

Still, I...

RE: The Twinstar is coming back

Maiden flight of my new Twinstar today. Weatherman forecast wind and rain. Instead it was a perfect spring day with very light wind, clear sky and temp near 70.

The Twinstar is powered by two...

RE: Flair Puppeteer Trust Angles

No problem with stock tank with my Pup. Except that the outlet tube corroded, causing a leak, making the engine run erratic.

That was a tough one to track down!

RE: Super Stearman Build

You have to reduce pictures down to a certain maximum size in a photo editor.

It would be nice if RCU would tell what that size is.. Maybe they do somewhere.

RE: Super Stearman Build

Tom,

I built one going on six years ago. It has a Saito 170 radial on it. It weighs 11 lbs, 6 oz. Finished it as a PT-17.

It is a good flyer, but it seems to land heavy. I don't know...

RE: Flair Puppeteer Trust Angles

I seem to remember that the top wing should be 0 to -1 relative to the bottom wing.

Getting those wings lined up isn't easy. I remember it being at least an all day job on mine. I think it is...

RE: Who has built a Toplflight Warbird

Larry S

I guess I should mention that I had to use maple beam motor mounts in order to have enough room in front of the firewall for the fuel tank.

Oh, I remember another thing. I used...

RE: Who has built a Toplflight Warbird

I built the TF Spitfire. Came out at 7 lb 10 oz. with flaps and air retracts.

I thought there was way too much plywood in this kit. So I substituted balsa wherever strength wouldn't be...

RE: Size / weight / $ 40cc gas Which engine.

The Brison 40 is the lightest I know of. I have one in an H9 Super Cub. It is a couple ounces lighter than my ZDZ 40 and much smoother, though a bit less powerful.

The Brison hand starts...
