Yes Steve, Back fires are valiant with the ys and they can happen at 4 - 5000 rpm. Happened to me once. destroyed the spinner and a wood prop. Lucky it didn't destroy the engine!

Yes the muffler and pipe are as you described. It works for most applications. It didn't work for my Giles. I used the header pipe with flex exhaust. Where I fly, there are not any neighbors so noise...

They won't beat central hobbies. Might as well order it tonight! You will be happy with this engine. I own 4 of them and a couple 120's. ys is the way to go! Saving my pennies for the 140dz.

This is a loaded poll. I like the osfx two strokes and the ys 4 strokes. just depends on the plane for which one I use.

Black Oil???

The dark gray oil film you see is metal. If you have a long exhaust pipe this could also be burnt Castor if you are using caster oil.

Two strokes get their power from rpm's. 4 Strokes just have power. example, ever stick your finger in the prop of a 2 stroke running 4000 rpm? "might cut you a little" Try it with a 4 stroke...

Sounds right to me! Oh, 4 strokes tend to be more expensive than two, But I am a 4 stroke fan,,,,,,,,I like the torque!
If you are into speed than 2 strokers are for you. High r's and small props.

YS 120 FS takes awile for fuel to reach carb.

With the ys engines you have to turn the prop over a few times to get fuel to the carb. I think the book says 10 revs of the prop to prime the engine and pressurize the tank.
Ys is a great running...
