Either of these would work quite well with the Minimag, get a 25 amp esc as you won't notice the extra weight but if you want to get a bigger plane later on can use it then

Just as a very approximate guide a 3s battery when it's a bit run down / under strain will produce a bit over 10v's but I use 10 as a round figure and multiply it by the number of amps of the motor...

The more rearward the CoG the more responsive a plane is BUT there's an old saying a plane with too rearward a CoG flys once so it's always best to start with ot more forwrad and VERY slowly move it...

That motor should give it reasonable power and hover it / fly vertically, is it the 3019 / 10 or 3019 / 12 and what prop are you using.

Just as a general rule of thumb more power = less flight...

Have now managed to totally open it up and didn't have to cut the wires, the motor came away when I took the upper part of the casing off leaving the underneath part with all the cogs etc in.
