UCD Vertical flight problem

I had the same issue with a saito 180 in a CG ultimate.

I put a Perry oscilating pump on it and never looked back.

Trust me, just put a pump on it and THEN try other stuff if it doesn't work.

Are y'all creating airfoils with the foam or are they flat wing sections?

Ripmax Alienator What do you all think?

It flew about like my first one....Great.

It takes a while to get accustomed to the odd shape in the sky.

It is black on the bottom and yellow on top. The center and verticals are black on top...

Ripmax Alienator What do you all think?

I had to make a hatch for the 5 cell 1100 pack by the elevator.

It still was a little nose heavy. About 1/2" worth.

I covered mine with econocote. Other than moving the battery, adding the LG...

Ripmax Alienator What do you all think?

I put a TT GP.42 on one and added LG. Great flying plane!

It was stable at low speeds and tracked great on high speed passes.

Throws were on the low side. I dumb thumbed it in. Working on a...

Cheap ARF Ideas.

Without the drag of the LG and the extra weight of the econocote it should do OK on a 25. It was going pretty fast on a 10 x 6 prop and I was running it fat as I was still breaking in the engine.

Cheap ARF Ideas.

Personal preference. I do suspect that it did strengthen the foam up a lot to have the second skin on it especially with as big of a motor as I had on it.

Second time around I am increasing the...

Cheap ARF Ideas.

How is this for cheap?

http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/WTI0001P?&I=LXAHP7

I put one together it flew great 'til I dumb thumbed it showing off.

I made it a tail dragger and threw a TT GP...

What Prop for 180

I run a 16 x 10 with good results on my CG Ultimate with a 180.

Any bigger diameter and it won't stop at idle.

The 10 inch pitch makes it haul when you want it too, also.

Saito 180 flaming out

I always run cheap servos in a plane until I get the bugs worked out. Less pucker factor on dead stick.

I had a 3004 futaba servo on 5 cells and a long servo horn.

I was coming in for a...

Saito 180 flaming out

I was very skeptical about adding an oscillating perry pump.

I was thinking there is no way this thing is going to work. It has to be a gimmick to sell more stuff. When I had to back off the...

OK. I had one flight with the pump and I am impressed.

This may have solved all my issues. I am being cautiously optimistic as I only got one flight in today for testing.

If I get a streak of...

I could have sworn I had posted an update on this thing, oh well.

I/2 hole uncovered, now.

I got to fly some today and worked on tuning my Ultimate w/ a saito 180.

It is fun to fog the neighborhood with 30% heli. :D

question for you Saito owners

From my limited experience I think the distance back from the tank is more important than the tank height.

My 180 is flaming out on verticle climbs. It is theorized that it can't pull the fuel...

No. Do not remove the copper piece.

If it won't turn with a screwdriver is is defective. Mine will turn with my finger nail.

You do realize that it will only mover 270 degree, correct? ...

Saito 180 flaming out

How did you set the bypass up?

Yes, I do have a glass filled mount.

I spoke with the local engine guru and he said my tanks were to low and to far back and to run the pump. He also said that...

The pump is an oscillating model. I was going to mount it on the engine but not run any lines to it. This way i can check if the tank/lines helped. If they don't I have an option to hook it up at...

OK. Here are the results of my test flying.

I set up idle...

Saito 180 flaming out

At this point I will not change out the prop unless I am overspeeding the engine. I have enough to tinker with right now.

I will look into the other fuel line. Changing it out will be a bear,...
