Plug the end of the fuel line going to the carb and blow gently into the line that goes to the exhaust. If the fuel tank cap is good it should hold some pressure. If it leaks or the top pops up too...

Correct on the high speed needle
Turn the low speed mixture needle till the head of the screw is even to the lever

The #2 is the best one.That one took quite awhile to make and paint.It's was done exactly like a car that used to race up here in the 50's.

There is a O ring seal on the HS needle,they go bad and have to be replaced
Backplate-either the gasket is leaking or the bushing is wore out and it has to be replaced

I went to Tower hobby and bought O rings for a OS motor's carb

I use dish washing detergent almost full strength Just keep squeezing -then I flush with water and squeeze dry-then I spray WD 40 on them,and squeeze dryWD displaces water and cleans and also cuts...

SH 18=2 1/2 out on the high and 3 1/2 out on the low
VX 16 and 18=2 1/2 out on high and flush with collar on the low
