RE: FTX Edge v Holiday Buggy 2010

Well, here we are a month or so on, so I thought it was time for an update.

The Mad Rat went together pretty well, and I was impressed with the general quality of the parts supplied, like the...

RE: FTX Edge v Holiday Buggy 2010

That's what my heart said, for all the sentimental reasons I outlined - but my head, and economic reality say I need to go cheaper, so I ordered the Mad Rat with a basic Etronix radio, NiMH battery...

RE: FTX Edge v Holiday Buggy 2010

Actually, I have been having a further look and I think I may have found the answer - the Ansmann Mad Rat. Parts support on ebay looks to be excellent, it comes as a kit and is in a similar price...

FTX Edge v Holiday Buggy 2010

Looking to buy my 6 year old son his first hobby grade RC for Christmas and was pretty much set on a Holiday Buggy for a number of reasons:

It's a Tamiya!
My first proper RC was an original...

RE: Tamiya Pajero-Collective Build

Nice pics engineerjoe, and what a great place to run! I see your bodyshell is looking like it has seen some action, but then if you are running it fast, it does tip over more as I am finding with a...

RE: Tamiya Pajero-Collective Build

Well, the Demon motor has noticeably less torque so there's less wheelspin and less acceleration from standstill, but it is noticeably faster at the top end. Almost too fast for the chassis really....

RE: Tamiya Pajero-Collective Build

Thanks, I will, or at least make a gasket of some sort and find a suitable grommet to seal around the wires. I am actually going to redrill the holes in the base as it needs to go back a bit to be...

RE: Tamiya Pajero-Collective Build

Got mine very wet the other day, so I decided to take it apart and clean it before any bearings seized. Took the receiver out of its balloon only to find that it was quite wet - ooops. Decided to get...

RE: Tamiya Pajero-Collective Build

Thanks LB, I elected to leave the shell white as I figured it would get scratched pretty soon and this way any scratches wouldn't show too much.

RE: Tamiya Pajero-Collective Build

OK, out in the snow again today - now very slushy and wet. This time took some pictures afterwards. Love the way this car runs, so scale, down to the way it leans in the corners and scrubs the tyres!

RE: Tamiya Pajero-Collective Build

Well, the snow has arrived here in the UK, and the whole country grinds to a halt. I have been out with the Pajero and it is great fun, although the snow is really slushy and sticky and it builds up...

RE: Tamiya Pajero-Collective Build

Motor was full of mud and the case is somewhat corroded, and the steering had also all but seized up - I must firgure out a way of modding it to remove the plastic to plastic contact.

Anyway,...

RE: Tamiya Pajero-Collective Build

Took mine out for a run in a very boggy field on Monday, ran well, but ended up very dirty, as you can see from the pictures below. Didn't get time to clean until yesterday, and found that water had...

RE: Tamiya Pajero-Collective Build

Finally got a bit of snow in the UK, sadly on my first day back at work after the holidays. Took the Pajero out though and had some fun, although it was too dark to take pictures.

Did take a few...

RE: Tamiya Pajero-Collective Build

So, I finally finished it, and here it is after the second trip out (the first being aborted due to the grub screw loosening in the rear UJ!)

I went for the easy painting option of white on...

RE: Tamiya Pajero-Collective Build

OK, thanks for trying that, I did wonder if it might bind up, but sounds like it is OK. I guess the overall movement of the steering is limited by the servo anyway. Will hopefully get the electronics...

RE: Tamiya Pajero-Collective Build

My chassis is now built and just needs electronics. I noticed that there is not much steering lock, seemingly because there are little stops on the hub carriers. Has anyone tried cutting these off?

RE: Tamiya Pajero-Collective Build

Checked with the seller and he says that he bought it from Japan where they don't include the ESC. Too excited by the build to worry about it anyway! Have ordered a set of LEDs today too.

RE: Tamiya Pajero-Collective Build

I got it from a private UK seller, and the outer box was covered in Singapore stamps so I presume he got it from there, relieved it of the ESC and sold the rest. Bit annoying, but no big deal...

RE: Tamiya Pajero-Collective Build

Kit arrived yesterday and the bearings today, so the build has started - takes me back over 20 years and the excitement is still the same!

Slightly disappointed that the NIB kit was missing the...

RE: Vintage PB Buggy from 1980's

That's right, they did both a 2 and 4WD version, both belt drive but with a much shorter belt on the 2WD and as you say no front diff or driveshafts. I do enjoy running mine, and I have quite a few...

That looks nice - I had one of these new back in the day and recently pulled it out of storage and got it running again. There is a thread on here that I started with pictures of mine and details of...

RE: m troniks esc trouble

I have one of these too, connected to a Futaba Rx. What radio system do you have? If the steering works, that suggests that the ESC is powering the radio gear, unless you have a separate battery for...
