RE: Cullman, Alabama SPA Contest - April 27th-28th

Thanks, Eric. The field is in great shape. We've done a bit more than usual to it over the winter. We've filled many of the rough spots with sand and done fairway maintenace under the guidance of...

RE: Curare tail

Blake

Thanks for the great explanation. My early models were built with reduced wing dihedral per the suggestion of a much more experienced local "expert" with the described pitch and roll...

RE: Curare tail

Gentlemen

I've built about a dozen Curares for SPA. I have never changed the anhedral in the stab because I don't know what it will do. I have messed with dihedral in the wing. DON'T. Hans...

RE: Cullman CPA CONTEST

Just a little additional info. Days Inn has been the traditional choice of RC pilots in Cullman. It's rate is usually lowest. A hot breakfast is included. It's right off I-65, so it's convenient...

Let's hold on that to see if I can come up with a complete set of plans. I appreciate knowing your help is available.

RE: Bud Nosen Aronica Champ 1/4 scale

Bob

Might the plans you have be dark enough to copy. My local copy shop has done some really nice work in the past.

RE: Bud Nosen Aronica Champ 1/4 scale

RD

Do you have a complete set of Champ plans? A friend gave me a kit, complete less the plans. What might it cost me to get a copy?

Ed

In Ringgold you're less than 3 hours from four contests. Jump in, or just come visit while we compete.

Mods - When I first started building Curares, the local expert told me I needed to...

RE: Modified Curare Build!

Hanno first flew Curare in 1975. He was won the European Championships first time out in September, '75. Two weeks later, he was 2nd to Wolfgang Matt in the WC. In October, '75, he and Wolfgang...

RE: Curare help

3" under one tipe is correct. I've built about a dozen Curares for SPA use. Early ones had reduced dihedral and strange coupling. When I finally quit messing around and used 3", all the mix issues...

RE: Rhett Miller's Gator Flea

Ed

Sidney is in the process of kitting GF. At the speed you build, you could walk to cullman and get one.

RE: SPA Leagal Exhaust

Anything that is a "muffler" is legal. This includes ultrathrust, etc. The guys using 2 strokes use these as well as stock mufflers. There are some YSs being used for which there is no stock...

I have not read the entire thread. Please do not confuse this issue. Your prestige and position can cause controversy before these guys have even tried one contest. Just allow them to...

RE: How about a Giant Chaos in SPA Novice Class?

Ed

We've got a number of guys with motor homes. One of them will be glad to loan you a little cool time. You'd not be the only one who does this.

RE: How about a Giant Chaos in SPA Novice Class?

Ed

A rule change being discussed by the Board of Directors will limit engine size to .61 2c or non-supercharged .91 4c for next year. That will probably leave the giant Chaos both vetically and...

RE: Catching the SPA Bug

Gentlemen

Read the rule. It says ANY SPA approved airplane or 72" and 15 lbs. The 80" King Altair is an SPA approved airplane. As noted, you need some ponies to fly it.

NEW NOVICE RULE...

RE: SPA / BPA prediction

First, one should fly a tail dragger Curare before deciding how offended his "purist" should be. Dan, the nose wheel does, in fact, go to save weight in the nose. It's a balance...

It's really not important how you pronounce Cure-R-E. Build one and fly it a bit. It's a great experience.

Curare can be built from MAN plans. Dynamic Balsa sells cores for both wing and stab. This is not a tough build. I have built about a dozen for myself and friends over the last 5 or 6...
