Use a VXL motor. They're relatively cheap on Ebay and really don't heat up that much on high voltage with proper gearing. You should see 50+ on 3s with 84/20 gearing with the VXL 3500, and still be...

Could be other internal damage to the ESC. Is there a way to reset or reprogram the ESC? Unplug the motor wires and turn the ESC on, then try reprogramming.

It sounds like the BEC on the ESC is malfunctioning. You could try running a 6.0v receiver pack, but I think I'd send the ESC back under warranty.

Only electric thing that will hang with a nitro buggy is a brushless electric buggy. You're gonna be looking at spending $1000+ for everything, and having a beast...

18/90 is a little low for a VXL.

But, there should be no reason to think the motor is shot just because it makes some extra noise. The bearings are about the only thing that will make noise...

Stock gearing is actually pretty high. Are you running on road or off? If Off road drop about 6 or 7 teeth on the pinion gear, that will help. On road try about 4-5 teeth down.

Should be fine until the weather warms up. Depending on the terrain you run on you might want to drop to anywhere from 17 - 20/86. An infrared temp gun really helps when it's cold.

I run 30 in all of my traxxas shocks. Floats over dips and bumps like a cadillac. Also bottoms out pretty good on big jumps, but I never cared much. [8D]
