RE: Mold cleanup...

I've had this happen to me many times. It's not necessarily because lack of release agent but just bad adhere between paint and plug. I would just scrape it off with Slowflyer prop or similar. With...

RE: Questions for Viper 500 pilots

Sorry I did not consider Nelson powered Q500 since I have not seen or flown one yet. I seems that with plenty of power it's more efficient to run higher pitch like electric gliders F5B use 17x21...

RE: Questions for Viper 500 pilots

Don't get too serious here;) I'm with daven. You make your calculations based on numbers on the blade? Wrong. Have you actually measured the pitch? Do you know what's the zero CL angle of the blade...

RE: Edges of molds

cando,
The result is lighter and stronger compared to glass fiber strip. This method needs to be vacuum bagged as you might think.
Best way to make a fuse is to use a bladder and about 2bar...

RE: Edges of molds

This is electric pylon model's fuse mold with flanges attached.
Oh, and for strong mold edges I would try aluminum powder filled epoxy. Gelcoats are too brittle.

RE: Wing Mold

I assumed you are building Q40 or similar but with Q500 the spar is not so critical. I don't know what you mean by .007 carbon fiber because I'm used to think it as number of 12k tows. I would put...

RE: Types of Kevlar

In European competition models that surfase coat is usually vorgelate.
See http://www.emcvega.de/matlist/7.htm

I use 0.35mm which is about .14"
Use one or two coats of release wax and paint it before laminating and you'll get fine looking wings.

How can I apply thin layer of gelcoat?

All molded planes has polyester spray gelcoat surfase. It is simply thinned 100% with acetone by weight and sprayed on. It's called vorgelat and I buy it from here www.emc-vega.de/
