I had an Alpha 40 trainer, and initially I crashed a number of times. I repaired it myself on multiple occasions. A 12' Telemaster would be considerably more work and expense to do so.

You need to get the wheels further forward. I'm not sure what type of landing gear you have, but you can either bend the wire or, perhaps shim the mounts to get the wheels more towards the leading...

I'd go with a 6V RX pack. It will provide a little more cushion before you would see a low voltage brownout. Also, if the Futaba servos have J plugs on them, you'll need to pare or sand that tiny...

Glow. The only engines I have are .46 to 1.6 two cycle glow. I just love the smell of burnt castor!
If I flew more, then maybe gas, but I don't get to fly as much as I'd like. I work 6- 12 hr night...

I have an old kit built STM with a one piece wing with no struts. I've haven't had any problems with the wings (or anything else for that matter). But, I do not fly it like an aerobatic plane either....
