He might surprise you. My 7 year old drives my VXL merv with no problems, he started when he was 6.
Now he also drives our Savage XS, and my 4 year old has started driving the merv.

Definately go with the 120SR.
I think you would be very disapointed with the CX2's performance outside - the 120SR will fly MUCH better. It is very stable and easy to fly, and very durable.

SCX10 motor/esc

I recently received a used SCX10 Honcho. It has been "upgraded" with a Team Associated 15T motor, but has the original Axial ESC. Pinion is 20t and gear is 87t. Radio is a DX3.0

bldrums, unless you've crashed, I doubt anything is bent. There IS bad runout on those parts though, and as far as I know, all SR's are like that. The blade grips and flybar still run true...
