My $75 Syma with FatShark has worked out!

Wasn't sure if the Syma X8W would have the guts to be a good, starter FPV machine. It's been a great, great experience with this cheapo drone.

Bought a FatShark set of camera/goggles for $200...

RE: Real pilot proficieny program, anyone?

Hi Rafael,

Great points. 13 years is a long time in this field. that would be a huge challenge, to change the program as the science/hobby evolved.

Let me say, that if the inputs are not...

RE: Real pilot proficieny program, anyone?

thanks for the reply.

I said "useless" to get peoples' attention.

I also said it because:
- do you know anyone who has done it?
- does anyone care about this program?
- what happens...

RE: Real pilot proficieny program, anyone?

let me expound. the idea would be to have a place where RC heli pilots could track their progress vs. a standardized set of maneuvers. it would be a way to help pilots not get bored with their...

Real pilot proficieny program, anyone?

The IRCHA has a pilot proficiency program. however, it's kind of out useles IMHO. I'm looking for a place to track what maneuvers I and my students can do. It would have levels and allow people to...

threading 1/4 scale aircraft servo wires in fuselage?

I've got a used Patty Wagstaff 1/4 scale aircraft. I've gotten the servo wires from the elevator servos mounted on the elevator all the way to the receiver.

However I've also got the pull-pull...

Thanks Tom. Don't have a lot of settings to play with

Yeah, I could get a governor and will do for my new, Raptor 50. But the Hirobo didn't use to do this.

I've got 3 basic ways to control what's going on as far as I can tell:
- ATV for the...

My heli revs up bad as I descend???

I have a Hirobo Shuttle Zx, my first heli. Been flying it (and crashing it) for a year. I was starting to do rapid descents when I had a couple of engine stalls. It's starting to get annoying...

RE: Newbie question

Sounds to me like you need to trim the 'rudder'.

I have a rate gyro:
- too much gain causes the heli to oscillate (over correcting)
- too little means I have to do all the heading control by...

How do I join a G2 multiplayer internet session?

I do the search, find some hosts, pick one, then go to the screen that says "Select a sesison to join." and nothing shows up.

Setup:
- I've got a fairly standard setup with a newly purchased...

Continuing saga...I think I may have licked it...

Took the engine out. Found that indeed the inside of the bell seemed scratched and there were metal filings around.
Decided to do some surgery and lower the engine on the frame -- as the frame...

Mike - neat idea about cranking up the stability...

You might want to elaborate on that a bit.

What I did for greater stability, is pick a larger, heavier chopper off the menu, like a Hughey. What did you do, crank up down the throw on the...

RE: General TX purchase question...

No, he's saying you dial it in by setting the mode parameter in the Tx to whatever you want. The Tx can do either.

RE: Heli sim, Dave brown -vs- real flight G2

I have not flown the Dave Brown sim but have flown both the G2 and an actual RC heli -- Hirobo Shuttle Zx, and I'll tell you the G2 out of the box doesn't come close to the real thing. In fact I...

Sounds good.

15% works for me. These engines do get pretty oily. I wouldn't worry about it too much.

RE: If it's the lining what are my options?

Ok, I just tried a few things. Loosened the engine and noticed that the main rotor gear turned a lot easier. Retightened the engine mount and still it felt nice and loose.

Went outside and...

Some thoughts:

Could be that you're running the engine too rich. Try running it a bit leaner, maybe a few clicks. If it's too rich, by leaning it the response to throttle should also be better.

What kind of...

If it's the lining what are my options?

I wonder if I should sand paper it down a bit?

I'm going to mess around with the engine mount bolts travel. Maybe I rammed the engine in too far or something.

RE: Main Blade Tracking

I like what Spaceman Spiff says. Another consideration I've found is: how much is left in the linkage threads?

You don't want to get to close to the end, instead of lengthening this one...

New clutch sticks even at low RPM on my Shuttle Zx with new rod starter instead of belt?

After going thru several clutches, I decided that part of the problem was that the engine was too easily misaligned by the belt starter forces. So I bought and installed:
- a new rod starter...

RifRaff - I suggest getting the kinks out with what you've got

I've been having an unbelievable time with my $100 used Hirobo Shuttle Zx - came with an Enya 35. It's got an old mechanical gyro that sounds like hell but does the job. I've beat the hell out of...

- self powered, e.g. solar powered
- transmits the signal...
