First Flight of Superstar EP at Home

ha ha, sounds like fun. Let us know how things work out...remember to keep it balanced.

think the firewall is strong enough? IC planes are usually overbuilt up there to compensate for the...

First Flight of Superstar EP at Home

How long are your flights? I thought about getting my friend this plane and setting him up with 8X3000 cells, MM, 2.5 and 10X7. I figure it'll run about 20 min with that setup. However, that setup...

Great Planes: Fundango

The WASP looks very nice. It's smaller, too, which comes in handy.

I had the Fundango out this morning...two quick flights before work. I definately need to add the landing gear as the early...

RC Car Motor on Airplane

320i, with that type of motor you may want to limit yourself to 6 cells and the GD600 gear reduction with at leat 3.8:1. Most of the motors I see in planes use 16 or more turns. The best way to get...

motocalc vs. reality

amp readings seem to better correlate on my end as well.

I just got a tach, so I don't have as much data on RPMs as I do current draw. How does the prop RPM compare?

motocalc vs. reality

Motocalc is good for getting you in the ballpark; I to have found that it's optimistic on can motors and pessimistic with brushless motors. Ironically, I was just testing a similar setup to yours...

Great Planes: Fundango

Going from memory, I think finding a 3.3:1 gearbox was difficult, so I settled on the 3:1 gear box and that works fine with the APC 10X7 slo-fly prop. The speed 400 motors put out enough punch, but...

Great Planes: Fundango

I had it out this morning, its first flights of the year :)

The kit builds real fast; you can build and cover it in a day. Use the recommended radio components, but the recommended power system...

Hey Lynn-

I hear you on that perfect evening; I love ending the day that way. I live near a big city park, so I can only fly in late evenings and early mornings. I was out this AM and got in 3...

GP Taylor Craft 20 size conversion HELP

by the way, the figures I posted earlier today took into consideration the purchase of a charger.

GP Taylor Craft 20 size conversion HELP

I have never used that charger so I cannot comment.

You'll need 8 or 10 cells to power that plane; it looks like this charger cannot charge more than 8 cells; you may need to contact the...

GP Taylor Craft 20 size conversion HELP

Yes and no. With the 3 batteries you mentioned, you have enough "fuel" for anywhere from 600- 1,500 flights, so up front costs are higher but your variable costs are lower.

Quick math:
600...

Graupner Terry Order

$42 for the Terry battery is a little insane. You have other options, one of which is from Hobby Lobby; go with the KR600AE cells. They lack a *bit* of punch that the 500 cells have, but you are...

BEC?? Do I understand this correctly?

Bryon-

The power consumed by a receiver and servos is ~ 0.125 amps/hour. I only worry about consumption with my electric powered glider....if it's up for a looong time, I blip the throttle...if...

Propeller Thrust Calculator

I used the same formulas as Thrust HP for Thrust, and it only considers diameter and RPM:
Thrust = 2.83E-12 x RPM^2 x D^4

MotoCalc seems to do a good job at approximating thrust values...180 oz...

Goofup- I think there no less than two types of people that are attracted to this hobby. One group is attracted to “new” technologies and the challenges that go along with those new ideas. The...

ThrustHP is nice, but does me no good at the field. I made a small spreadsheet which I uploaded to my Palm Pilot so I can get insight into different props at the field.

You can play with...

what about electrics

I wasn't clear...the Fun fly is electric. I typically fly it full throttle, so I bring it in after 4 minutes.

I will say this; a new flyer needs all the flying he can get. IC planes had the edge...

what about electrics

How does the method of propulsion have anything to do with flying? Speed 400 planes only require a baseball or football field to fly in. Sounds like the dependence upon organized flying, the AMA,...

Not familiar with those kits. Badmeat's suggestion is right on. Mountain models makes great kits and you'll always talk to the owner. They go together real fast, too.

Cleanest four stroke?

VERY nice setup, Bill. It's nice to see additional options when it comes to engines. I think I now have another reason to get that quarter scale Cub....

Cheers,

Paul
