RE: What Parts Are Must Have for Glow/Gas Planes

I can't believe people forgot extra glow or spark plugs. That should be the first thing that goes in the box.

RE: Great Planes Ultimate Biplane .40 Build. (The covering)

I got one of these for Christmas this year. I plan on starting it after I get my uproar finished. I plan on using a saito .82 for power (I can't decide on the plain or the golden knight).

I...

RE: Smoke questions

Read the article, did more research and have another question.

Is it true that using a smoke system will raise the engine temp and can create a lean condition?

Smoke questions

Hello all,

I have been contemplating putting a smoke system on some of my airplanes. I have one that I can use for a trial set up. It has a fairly light wing loading and could handle the extra...

RE: Why don't many people build RC kits any more, Part Deux

When I first started getting into airplanesa couple years ago, I talked to my uncle who had been away from it for several years, he always built kits or from plans. We decided to get into it...

RE: Turbocharged nitro engines

An aircraft engine would need a fan or something for cooling as they don't have the large cooling heads on them.
Also, some new gearing would be needed...

RE: Dried Epoxy on Ultracote?

Not sure about ultra cote, but I have used monokote trim solvent to remove dried fiberglass resin fingerprints off of monokote. If you have some, it's worth a try.

My experience with M.E.K is...

Cutting Pitts mufflers

I have a Pitts muffler for my dle 20cc that I am putting on a gp extra 300. To get the cowl over the muffler easier, can I cut some length off the outlet tubes of the muffler. I can cut about 1 1/8...

RE: Radical tail wheel idea

Well, it's on a GP extra 300 .60 kit. I will leave it as is. I fly off of grass and it isn't what you would call a smooth field. It is also windy sometimes and I think that would make it harder to...

Radical tail wheel idea

I have been wondering if any one has ever not tied the tail wheel into the rudder. Basically the tail wheel would be free to swivel any way it wants to, the plane would turn only by the air passing...

RE: Covering question

All I have ever used is monokote. I have learned to get the edges sealed down (except for a little spot on fully sheeted surfaces). Then I get the heat gun out to start heating it and the use the hot...

RE: bonding pieces together

Definitely use epoxy. It's the strongest bond you can get.

Some say if a longer curing epoxy is used like 1 hour, the epoxy has time to saturate the wood being bonded and makes it stronger. It...

RE: Beginner Build - tools question

I just go to the dollar store and get their waxed paper. It looks too frosted, but laid right over plans, it is semi transparent. I usually don't have problems seeing anything i need to.

RE: Scaling down aircraft

I plan on using an esc/bec with a 5v 2a rating so I don't need to carry another battery.

Should I use a balsa slab or try building up surfaces with sticks and sheeting for the rudder and stab?...

RE: Scaling down aircraft

Ok... My quickie 500 weighs 3.9 pounds and has a o.s. .46ax. That is a power loading of about 136. I think I can build the smaller one right at 2 pounds. Using a .15 or similar will net around the...

Scaling down aircraft

RE: 4-40 pushrods threaded down to 2-56

upon further review, a 1/8 inch brass tube with a .014 wall (like made by K&S Enginnering) would fit over the threads well and give ample but not too much room for solder to seep in.

I could...

RE: 4-40 pushrods threaded down to 2-56

5/64ths I.D. Brass tube looks like its the closest. its .078125 and according to towerhobbies, the rod size of 2-56 is .072.

I like this idea a lot better than trying to mill down the 4-40...

4-40 pushrods threaded down to 2-56

I was wondering if anyone has tried to thread a 4-40 pushrod down to 2-56.

I know they make solder on things for the 2-56...
