20ft is the perfect hight to learn, and also the perfect crashhight when your engine dies (to low to recover and just to high to have no damage when it hit the ground). I know, happened to me.

I've got about 9 or 10 midairs trough the years I fly. Always each pilot has to deal his own costs which I think is normal.
