RE: Pe' Reivers

I am very very sorry to hear this news. Pe was an important contributor to this forum - I really valued and respected his opinion. A learned gentleman, a good guy and a great ambassador to the hobby....

RE: Power contest JBA .56F vs ASP .52 XLS (both modded)

Right ... so to clarify, a modified engine is outperformed by an even-more-modified engine. Sounds feasible.

Good to see those OS parts making the modified Chinese engines go better.

With...

RE: Midrange issue - glow plug?

Heh! That's exactly what I thought when I read the post too.

To the OP (Ken): Whatever engine it is, the carb's midrange sounds like it's not correctly calibrated - quite common with Chinese...

RE: OS Carburator

The 7B carb is indeed for the original OS .60 FSR engine. It was also fitted to some OS .60 FGR (non-scheurle) engines. They date back to the mid seventies.

It's a great carb.

RE: OS 75AX on a MACS 1260 Pipe

Those numbers look impressive. Do post your numbers on the APC 12x8 - for comparison, my Jett .90L with Jettstream muffler gets about 13K with the 12x8.

Here's a tip - for each of your runs for...

RE: A bit dissappointed

The short answer: Of the two plastics props, you'll need to fly the model with both, flying your normal rountines, to find out which is best.

Re: the rpm numbers. I have not seen the old Magnum...

RE: Rear exhaust 91 glow options

Great choice of engine! Ther MVVS engines are powerful, great throttling, great running engines that are very tolerant of a wide range of props. A flying buddy has a .77 with a pipe - it's a very...

RE: Max Sustained RPM for a Saito 1.00??

Those two (APC 13x10 and APC 14x8) are great props for the Saito 1.00. On the ground, she'll be doing about 9500 and 9300 rpm respectively, with a little unload in the air if the model's airframe is...

RE: prop size and sound

The doppler effect you describe is a pure velocity-related thing. So the best way to get it is to prop the model/engine combination for maximum velocity during level flight.

Experiment with a...

RE: GMS 1.20 output: is it in the ballpark?

For another data point at lower elevation, I broke in and maidened a GMS 1.20 for a guy. It was running an MA 16 x 10 and turned 8,300 rpm peaked at sea level.

RE: 61 vf tuned pipe

Try the smaller pipe but from first hand experience I would recommend the Macs 1160. I used this on my OS VF .61 (OS 7D carb with factory fitted sleeve) with very good results. 14,400 - 14,500...

RE: Help about OS FS a-110-P

That sounds a little low. Peak rpm with that prop should be up closer to 9000 rpm than 8000. This may indicate that there's a problem.

We've got a non-pumped 1.10 at our field doing high eights...

RE: OS OR MAGNUM 4 STROKE INVERTED

I have an OS .52 and OS .91 surpass mounted inverted. The .52 has done about 60-70 hours and the .91 about 130 hours with no problems, apart from the .91 breaking a valve spring ($2 part).

RE: How loud? Saito 125 without muffler.

^^ This - couldn't agree more.

I've run 3 - 4.5 inch straight pipes on an OS .91 Surpass 2 pumper (very quiet), a YS 1.10 (a bit louder) and a YS .63S (a bit louder still) and they were all...

RE: Tight pinch, rich running, broken rod?

Downunder - this cannot be! Those observations can't be the truth! Theory dictates that you are wrong! That engine has destroyed itself but you don't realise it yet!

Seriously... nice post....

RE: fuels for OS 40FSR series

They don't. Whatever you'd run in a modern ringed engine of high quality will do fine in the old FSR. Break it in, tach it (and report back to us what they do!) and enjoy. They are great engines.

RE: fuels for OS 40FSR series

The ringed FSR series of the mid seventies were THE engine to get for sport flying when I started flying. We ran them on 80/20 Methanol/Castor - no nitro. They ran fantastically.

These days I...

RE: Time to change the ring & cylinder liner??

Definitely check the valve clearances - it's easy to do and will disqualify itself as a potential cause of low compression once done.

Don't be too concerned about low compression when testing at...

RE: OS 32 SX Aircraft engine

I'd have to agree with the positive feedback about the .32 SX. The one example I have flown was an absolute jewel - perfect thottling, smooth and lots of top end power. I have not seen an AX .35 but...

RE: Saito 100 idle

Yup - same engine, prop - exact same rpm for me too. Nice to see ledgers balance like that!

With the APC 14 x 8, my Saito idled at a uncannily smooth 1800 rpm. My YSs both idle slowly but have a...

RE: Compare : YS 63FZ or-S vs Saito FA-100

I have both. They are not really comparable, as they are intended for different sized applications.

My YS .63S has been a pretty much set and forget engine. A cynch to set up and has been...

RE: What propeller for FL-70???

^^ Good advice

They are the two I'd try. Estimated rpm for these is a little over 9K for the APC 12x8 and somewhere in the mid to high nines for the 13 x 6. An APC 12x8 imposes quite a bit more...

I found that mine was able to...

RE: OS 91 Fx

An APC 13 x 10 is fine for that engine. It should be spinning it at somewhere between 9,800 and 10,200 rpm peaked.

9,350 rpm is too low; if that is the peak figure, it suggests another issue...
