"Nitrate dope must be used on polyester fabric as the initial coat. Butyrate dope will not adhere to polyester fabric, only nitrate. Therefore, the first few coats of chemicals must be nitrate dope....

Model Copy

I just purchased a 10J and am planning on using a 7C as a buddy box with it. I have both trainer cords listed in the 10J manual, the 4405 and the 4415. Using the 10J as instructor and 7C as student....

RE: Filtering Glow Fuel.

I used to have the same problem. I use a 1 qt. container to hold fuel and made a small Styrofoam cooler just the right size to keep it in. Fits right in my flight box. I use an electric pump to...

RE: How to cover large compound curves

Trying to cover the bottom and the sides with one piece of covering, although not impossible, is extremely difficult. Once you get up around the nose you have a lot of stretching and shrinking to do,...

RE: How to cover large compound curves

That's a good point. I have a Robart Super Stand #401 I can secure the airframe to with rubberbands and an old comforter I place on the bench. But between the knees generally works the best.

RE: How to cover large compound curves

Hi harlanb. Could you post some pictures of exactly what you're having difficulty with or tell us what kit you are trying to cover? Mostly I use the iron, but when I really need to stretch the...

RE: a lesson to all

Maybe other club members should watch to see if his antenna is extended when in position to take off and remind him when it isn't.

RE: Covering Installed Stab?

Hi Hooked. I have a building board I made some 20+ years ago. It is a 60x18x5/16's piece of glass with a 3/8's bulletin board glued to it, and polished edges. It is extremely flat with a cork surface...

RE: Covering Installed Stab?

Single edged blade I assume? I use a double-edged razor blade for that, because they are thinner and therefore sharper than the single edge ones. One must handle it very carefully and have zero...

RE: Taxes on Internet sales

I agree with that. Seems to be the simplest solution, but it probably won't happen.

RE: Did I Mess Up!

Now that's interesting. Haven't heard that before, but I could see it happening, depending, I guess, on the size of the weight.

RE: Did I Mess Up!

Screws are the most secure, but only in plywood. They are not recommended for use in balsa. MinnFlyer is correct about epoxy on covering material. GOOP, on the other hand, sticks tenaciously to...

RE: Which hole to use on control surface horns

Thank you for clearing that up for me Rock. I actually have and read that article in MAN when the issue came out. I knew I saw it somewhere, just couldn't remember where. Now that I've re-read it I...

RE: Would you build this kit?

It's doubtful that Dave Platt's first attempt at a scale aircraft was as good as his latest. The entire building experience is an art form and a lot more complicated than paint-by-numbers.

RE: Would you build this kit?

I do not believe you can bottle and then spoon feed to someone the building experience. That experience can only be learned first hand and over time. I do believe that most of the kit manufacturers...

RE: Subtrim? What is it?

Maybe. Key point from the 6EXAS Manual, page 13:

"Adjusting the trims with the trim levers changes the servo’s position in increments of “4.” If finer adjustments are required, land the...

RE: Subtrim? What is it?

I could be wrong (like my disclaimer? :D) but I believe that the Trim Setting is to adjust how much deflection one gets at any particular control surface when it's trim lever is adjusted/moved, i.e.,...

RE: Subtrim? What is it?

Sub-trim should be used to center the servo wheel in relationship to the pushrod, not the control surface. This way you geometrically get the same amount of throw on the rod from the servo in both...
