RE: Opensource CDI ignition

Hi Rob,

The Config. with the RC circuit having the resistor goto ground and the cap going to the positive rail, and then the feedback winding going between the resistor and the cap.I...

RE: Opensource CDI ignition

Hi Rob,

I have expirenced the same problems in the past and the way I solved it was to decrease the secondary windings and increase the primary windings and then speed up the...

RE: Opensource CDI ignition

HI Lumpylimpy,

You could try to lower the resister value at the RC(Resistor/Capacitor) circuit.

RE: Opensource CDI ignition

Hi Rob,

Your English is Fine.I think you do Pretty Good.Maybe its me that needs to learn to speak Dutch? :D. I agree if the cap is too big then it will cause trouble.

RE: Opensource CDI ignition

Hi Rob,

I don't understand why a higher Inverter freq. will lower the RPM.It seems that the HV Cap. will charged with a higher freq.Other factors must be involved.

RE: Opensource CDI ignition

Hi LumpyLumpy,

I use a 1uf cap on my design and I use less windings on the secondary and get more voltage. I get around 400 volts.I do this by increasing the inverter...

RE: Opensource CDI ignition

Yes you are right the original circuit dicharged the voltage through the coil.In this circuit the cap is charged and the IRF740 just grounds one side of the coil. you could replace the IRF740 with a...

RE: Opensource CDI ignition

Yes. This is just another version of a CDI. ITs Designed for 12V. Be careful though. with this circuit the sparkplug electrode will shock you with the just the circuit energized.

RE: Opensource CDI ignition

Hi javipallinux,
You could probably make this work on 12volts by using a 7508 voltage regulator to drop the 12 volts to 5 volts.I have another circuit that is designed...

RE: Opensource CDI ignition

Hi Rob,
I can Email you a alternative circuit for the trigger using a SCR where you should 'nt receive any reversevoltage to the Power supply. 740v is a little much .

BTW Nice...

RE: Opensource CDI ignition

Hi Jon,

Great Job on the CDI circuit. How long did it take to wind the toroid?I have made several CDI circuits and found using Ecore transformers a lot easier.:)

RE: Scratch Built Ignition???

Hi Zagnut,

I am currently using CH coils. To get a good spark you need at least 350 to 400 Volts. At least in my experiments anyway.

RE: Scratch Built Ignition???

Zagnut,

where do you get your coils?I use the Voltage doubler because I use CH ingnition coils.I need around 400 volts.I will try to post pics as soon as I can.
