RE: 73" Edge 540T 1.20 Build

Yeah the really light blades dont auto all that well. Have you seen the Radix blades from Curtis? Man that airfoil is thick and looks like a NACA 16. A set of balanced woodies flies just fine. Its...

RE: 73" Edge 540T 1.20 Build

Tom was saying they are not as thick of a prop so they tend to flex at the tips.

I am not any advocate to any brand of prop or engine. So what if I think Wild Hare planes are the best for the...

RE: 73" Edge 540T 1.20 Build

Zingers are just not that effective on 50cc or above engines, and in smaller sizes you have better choices.

I see a lot of people with DA 50's that run Zingers, which blows my mind. A Bolly, an...

RE: 73" Edge 540T 1.20 Build

I like the rack setup, its sorta like mine ;) I use some foam padding to keep the planes happy.

RE: 73" Edge 540T 1.20 Build

I am glad you were able to get all the details of your small plane together :) I will be ordering up some more planes really soon. Now if only there were some Wild Hare Trailers...then I would be in...

RE: 73" Edge 540T 1.20 Build

I have to admit, although I like the larger WH planes, if I was in the market for a smaller one this would be it! The wing area, the weight, and the ease of build are all a plus in my book.

Its...

RE: 73" Edge 540T 1.20 Build

Hello all, Brian picked up his Edge today. I really didnt have time to take as many pictures as I wanted. Some of the graphics worked out great. The balance with the YS 1.40 required the battery...

RE: 73" Edge 540T 1.20 Build

Ok so no issues at all in mounting the motor. Even with the custom YS mount there was plenty of clearance. Tommorow I will take the motor off and fuel proof the motor box for good measure. I will...

RE: 73" Edge 540T 1.20 Build

Well I now have had the pleasure of meeting Brian in person and also all the goodies to get this bird going. This is going to be one sweet Edge! I will get to mounting the engine today and also...

RE: 73" Edge 540T 1.20 Build

It should go the same way as my 28 and 33%...easy that is. I used CF rods on my larger ones. Not sure what Brian is going to want but I will probably use the same setup. The Hitec 5625's will be...

RE: 73" Edge 540T 1.20 Build

I will probably wait to make any more progress until I get the rest of the goodies.

RE: 73" Edge 540T 1.20 Build

Ok folks, here are pictures of the sealed hinge gaps. I used the same color of red ultracote. Ultracote is so much easier to work with than monokote IMHO.

RE: 73" Edge 540T 1.20 Build

After I have checked the surfaces for max. deflection in either direction I will then seal the hinge gap. More to follow!

RE: 73" Edge 540T 1.20 Build

I hinged the wings and ailerons last. Remember to remove any covering left behind in your hinge holes. You want your hinges to be glued into the wood itself and not on the covering. Once again I...

RE: 73" Edge 540T 1.20 Build

Brian did not want the Wild Hare logo and bunny on the bottom of the wing....

It was easily removed with sharp razor blade. I then used some de-natured alcohol to clean up the residue left...

RE: 73" Edge 540T 1.20 Build

I finished hinging except for the rudder. That is saved for later on after I mount the engine. Standing the plane on its tail is the easiest way to align the spinner and engine. So here are some more...

73" Edge 540T 1.20 Build

Ok folks, so here is Brian's 1.20 size WH Edge that I am building. I dont know why all the fuss over this little plane. It really is like a smaller version of how the 28% and up planes are built....
