I don't recall having ever used machine screws for mounting retracts. Sheet metal screws work nicely with little chance of them backing out. My .02 cents of course.

The Top Flite airplane is approximately 1:5.7 scale so still closer to 1/6 than to 1/5. A true 1/5 scale Corsair would have a span of 98.4 inches. It's a big airplane!
