Thanks tedsander, I will monitor it after flying, but all makes sense.

Glow Engine Smoking After Running

I have recently rebuilt a saito FA 56 after a long hiatus - essentially replaced the bearings, stripped and cleaned everything and reset clearances etc.
I mounted it in a test bed for the first run...

Sorry I didn't notice your post until after I replied to Jester_S1.

I think alot of the "newer" airframes, extra's, edges etc. only require 30-40 feet to pull themselves into the air on their...

Hi Jester

Your point number one is very pertinent. I have been corrected after the fact rather than predicting -

I will check the landing gear using two straight edges touching the outside of...

Just need to catch another flying session and give it a whirl. I have been flying...

Hi Jim

This is a taildragger - so no nose wheel.

I like your signature - very good - maybe it would help with my ground handling:o

RE: Unexpected flight characteristics

Bad weather this weekend so no flying. But I did get the opportunity to scruitinise the plane more closely. The covering on the underside of the right aileron had delaminated over a length of about...

RE: Unexpected flight characteristics

I will check the landing gear mains and tail wheel for correctness. Adding toe-in on the mains would be difficult as the LG is fibreglass and would require drilling the hole for the axle rods at an...

RE: Unexpected flight characteristics

I only seem to have problems with the ground handling on this plane. But practice, practice, practice!

I measured some of the key attributes of the plane last night as follows:

Wing...

RE: Unexpected flight characteristics

The reason I added the mix was I found the plane extremely "squirreley" om the ground. However point taken. I will take out the mix - add 90% expo on the rudder :D, and try again.

I will also...

RE: hair spray a sanding sealer

Hi Gray Beard

What do you use to apply the sanding sealer? A brush (conventional) or an air brush spray? Do you thin it down first or apply straight out of the tin?

I have a cub which I...

RE: GP .60 Extra 300s Build

Partisan is correct.

HAving the HS and the wing both at the 0 deg will mean that in order for the wing to generate lift it will require a positive angle of attack. )This is due to the...

RE: GP .60 Extra 300s Build

With the wing mounted securely in the fuselage and set to 0 deg. the horizontal stab should have an incidence of minus 1/2 deg.

What I did was to set the HS to 0 degrees and then the wing to...

RE: GP .60 Extra 300s Build

On the rebuild I sanded the foredeck with a bar sanded (port to starboard) before sheeting - much better results even though I used 3/32" instead of the 1/16".

But you are right I am sure this...
