Didn't Andrew make that about 10 or 15 years ago? I know it's been quite a while. I actually had never noticed the thimble.

The Cox car engine of 1949 was labeled Thimble Drome - see "Early engines" at this site:

Ray, when Leroy Cox introduced the Space Bug in 1952 he already had the name Thimble Drome. I think this precedes the circle at Disneyland by several years.

Thimble Drome is the original name for Cox engines. It is also what "TD" means. There were no other .010's made by Cox. On the other hand, in the .020 size there was a "Pee Wee" .020 before the TD...
