RE: Matt Chapman cap 580 .40 size

The spacer slides onto the axle, then the wheel, then the collar. So the axle thread goes through the gear hole, and the nut is screwed on from behind. Then slide spacer over axle followed by wheel....

RE: Matt Chapman cap 580 .40 size

I think the .61fx is plenty for this plane. It would be nose-heavy IMO with a .91 and you don't need that power. It's quite fast with the .61, even with a 13x4. It has plenty of power for unlimited...

RE: Matt Chapman cap 580 .40 size

FYI, it not the canopy you are talking about, it is the cowl. The canopy is what the pilot looks through. :D

As I understand, it, no you should not cut out the 2nd opening as long as the single...

RE: Matt Chapman cap 580 .40 size

I assume you've checked for bubbles in the fuel line. I had a defective casting where the needle valve attaches - it left a tiny gap at the casting seam which allowed air to enter and formed bubbles...

RE: Matt Chapman cap 580 .40 size

I would think 1/8" of elevator uneveness would be plenty to snap it. This plane requires so little elevator travel that I couldn't believe it was set up right until I flew it. So 1/8" is alot on this...

RE: Matt Chapman cap 580 .40 size

I didn't carve out my formers - used a bigger tank attached to the receiver tray so it is closer to CG, and ziptied battery to wing bolt former. Balanced perfectly w/ OS .61fx.

RE: Matt Chapman cap 580 .40 size

I used glue - in fact I just used some yellow carpenters glue I had on hand since I didn't have any canopy glue at the time. Canopy glue is simply an aliphatic glue, and so is Elmers etc. If...

RE: Matt Chapman cap 580 .40 size

You do want to add a clunk to the 2nd fill line if you want to be able to pump extra fuel out of the tank at the end of the day.

It's simple to place a bigger fuel tank further back - I may...

RE: Matt Chapman cap 580 .40 size

Mine has an OS.61fx and it seems perfect to me. I used a slimline pitts muffler with the motor mounted sideways, never even tried to use the stock muffler. It required a small cutout for the corner...

RE: Matt Chapman cap 580 .40 size

Mine seems fine w/o any up or down added, using a OS.61.

I used 30 min epoxy - just coated center of stab with it and pushed it in, then cleaned off excess. Ran a filet of epoxy underneath where...

RE: Matt Chapman cap 580 .40 size

Can't wait to try that move - thanks! Of course it might be April [:@]. AeroflyProD here I come (again).

I add my vote for this plane being a great all-arounder, and first aerobat. I am not...

RE: Matt Chapman cap 580 .40 size

I doubt it - with the .61 it is nose heavy with the gas tank, receiver and battery in recommended positions. So it probably balances perfectly with a .46.

RE: Matt Chapman cap 580 .40 size

The model is designed to be flown w/ a .46 according to the box/manual, so it will surely fly fine and probably very scale-like. If that's all you want, go for it. As CAD said, if you are buying the...

RE: Matt Chapman cap 580 .40 size

Finally got to maiden the 580. I took it out Saturday even tho it was a bit breezy, maybe 10kts gusting higher. I was sick of looking at it sitting in my basement unflown, so what the hey - I figured...

RE: Matt Chapman cap 580 .40 size

Bill- Thanks - actually the Dubro unit I have comes with a plastic "grommet" or mount that you can CA into a hole in the fuse or cowl, and then you can push the plug into it. The plug has an oring...

RE: Matt Chapman cap 580 .40 size

Amer - I assume your CG was too far back on the first flight? Were you using the conrol surface deflections specified in the manual, and did you try low or high rates? Glad you liked it, I hope I do...

RE: Matt Chapman cap 580 .40 size

That's what I have if it is APC - and yes I did have to enlarge the spinner openings quite a bit.

RE: Matt Chapman cap 580 .40 size

Good question - I will probably try it. I set up flaperons on my 4*60 and they worked fine. Wasn't really needed on that plane but I tried it anyway.

I set up my throws last night - boy the...

RE: Matt Chapman cap 580 .40 size

Frank-

Careful with the expo on low rates. I read in another thread where a guy may have crashed his H9 Extra 260 because he had too much expo on, which can cause "dead" controls around center...

RE: Matt Chapman cap 580 .40 size

I got mine to balance at 3.5" by installing the Dubro 350cc tank with its rear end against the servo tray. I have a 4x600 Nicad pack ziptied to the rear wing mount bar, and receiver behind the servo...

RE: Matt Chapman cap 580 .40 size

I will balance mine tonight again probably, but as I posted above initial attempts indicate I will have to do the same with the battery. I did buy a Dubro 350cc fuel tank that I will mount on the...

RE: Matt Chapman cap 580 .40 size

I had to bend my throttle rod in in towards the motor and then bend the end back parallel to the mount to clear the pitts. Seems to work fine, not getting excessive drag.

My Cap is all...

RE: Matt Chapman cap 580 .40 size

I had to cut a small amount from the inside of the cowl intake for the carb venturi also. And my stars don't line up either, so as suggested I think it's better to line up the spinner and the top...

RE: Matt Chapman cap 580 .40 size

Frank -

We are at the same point in assembly. I also had lots of wrinkles, some ironed out others didn't, specially underneath the fuse. I did trim a small square out of the cowl beneath the...

RE: Matt Chapman cap 580 .40 size

Did anyone w/ an .61 fx have to cut the cowl cheek a little to clear the outboard cooling fin on the cylinder head (lower most fin with engine mounted sideways)? Looks like I will have to notch out...
