RE: NATS

They dropped 2610 a little while back, at least at the NATS and all of the eastern events I have attended. There is a group in the northwest that still does it, but I think 2948 has almost replaced...

RE: Is combat dead?

Some of what you deal with is the mentality difference of people that want to do ribbon cut combat such as the "official" classes versus "full contact" combat. I find newbies tend to like the idea...

RE: Is combat dead?

From all of these types of discussions I have read over the past year or so, I certainly see the likelihood of a small electric "class" of combat to emerge to capture the park flyer generation. I...

RE: Is combat dead?

Evidently, the economy has really taken a toll on combat participation. I know the RCCA is discussing it and taking suggestions, but most are simply speculating as to the reason for the decline over...

RE: WW1 Combat Benalla Australia

That is one of the coolest things I have ever seen. I fly combat, so I can really appreciate the work each pilot has put into being willing to battle with such planes. Great pictures too. Thanks...

RE: which motor

It is, which is why I stated that I was biased, but all of the information I told you is true. I took many of the aerodynamic principles and building techniques I have learned from gliders and...

RE: which motor

I am biased, but have flown both extensively. The performance of the Tomahawk truly is superior to the Battle Axe and exhibits superior speed, turning, and energy retention through maneuvers. While...

RE: which motor

Here are several of the companies I have dealt with at some point in the past for reinforcement cloth, resins, and vacuum bagging materials. Before I order, I always check my prices between them. ...

RE: which motor

That is a question of much debate and the definition of "better" will vary from person to person. I use the Magnums exclusively on my Tomahawk SSC and find that they produce better power on lower...

I'll have to keep that in mind as well. Almost 4 hours from here, but you never know when I might be in the area. Sounds like fun...

RE: focus when flying combat?

It definitely takes some getting used to when you have several in the sky at once. Get really familiar with your plane so you pretty much know what you are doing without even looking at it. It...

Attach it at the tail so that it doesn't get tangled up in your control surfaces.

RE: New Magnum engines

I found some performance ( RPM ) increase with the larger inserts, probably due to the finish being smoother than the cast carb version. Polishing a set further may also help for those circumstances...

RE: Legal muffler 2548 ?

I'm pretty sure it is not legal. But that being said, I feel if a given engine is turning a given RPM on a given prop, who cares.. the performance will be dictated by that...even if it is rubber...

RE: Power of ASP XLS .15

I'm not really sure about the power of that particular engine, but I regularly tach the Magnum 15XLS's at 17,750 RPM using 5% Wildcat fuel when the ambient temperature is 73 degrees and with 42%...

Rather than recite it all here, I'm referring you to "the source". Go to the Home Page and go to the "Start Combat" tab for a list of class rules and such.

Good luck.

RE: Frist spad.

There are groups of combaters that fly SPADS more than any other type of plane. For the money, durability, and speed of building, they are a common approach to get started. I have found most of my...

RE: .15 engine (recommendation)

Commonly available, I would lean toward the Magnum 15XLS. It is a little hotter than the O.S. 15La. ( There are cheaper sources than the one listed, but it provides better information. )
