RE: J-3 cub Identifly.

I would have loved to see the Cheshire cat grin you had on that flight. It must have been ear to ear and then some.

RE: J-3 cub Identifly.

That is a hot wire foam cutter. It uses a door bell transformer to heat the wire. The dimmer switch controls the heat. You can make templates out of cheap 1/8 plywood, then cover the edge with...

Yes, the air moved by the prop can move a lot of things. I had it blow a Tx off the...

RE: J-3 cub Identifly.

I would remove all of the junk that was there and start clean from the fire wall. You can make a simple ply box, buy a motor mount, make stand offs. You could cut a slot in the firewall to slide...

RE: J-3 cub Identifly.

The ole bench clearing method. Yeah, I too have used that one.

She should balance on the spar.

You should be able to cruise around at 1/2 throttle or less. Should not have a problem...

RE: J-3 cub Identifly.

Well yes I did do a lot of drag racing. Blew the hell out of a truck load of 327's. We managed to kill almost every motor we built. We tried every thing, water injection, water/alcohol injection,...

RE: J-3 cub Identifly.

Now where is the fun of doing it right the first time :)

Well you could have used an 11X7, 11X6, 11X5. This is where and why a watt meter is needed.

Lets say you wanted to run the 11X9...

RE: J-3 cub Identifly.

Running an11X9 seems to be a bit much. You did find out it would do it, but not for very long.

Well, you can try to put the magic smoke back in? I have never been able to. :)

I have...

RE: J-3 cub Identifly.

Was it the motor or ESC?

I think the 30 amp ESC was a bit low for this setup. What prop were you using?

Here is a link to an online calc tool for electric motors.

RE: J-3 cub Identifly.

The 24-44 one should fly the 36 ounce plane but would be to small for the Cub

The one that is rated for 31-58 ounce should fly the Cub.

Cub should come in about 40 ounces.

I looked for...

RE: J-3 cub Identifly.

That is correct. The ESC has a built in BEC (battery eliminator circuit ) It will power the servos and Rx. It plugs into the throttle channel.

RE: J-3 cub Identifly.

Well the eflite 25, with a 4s battery should fly a 4 pound (64 ounce) plane with ease. It should be putting out some where around 5.25 pounds of thrust. So it is over powered for the Cud and the...

RE: J-3 cub Identifly.

The Eflite 25 weighs about 2 0unces more then the eflite, tacon 10 and would need to use a larger ESC and battery to get the most out of it.

With the tacon 10, 12X6 APC "E" prop, 3s 2200 lipo...

RE: J-3 cub Identifly.

The gear box was to turn bigger props with less amps. In the stock form, I flew mine that way, I would get 5 minutes of powered flight MAX It was under powered and flew on the wing only. Not worth...
