RE: PT-311 (1:12 Scale) 6-Foot RC Electric Boat Model

Looks good! Every model of PT boat looks different, all have great personality. Here are pictures of mine ( also 6ft) with later torpedoes and crew. There are 2 motors and 3 rudders. I have a...

RE: 5'pt boat finally done

What is this "try again" Hydro Junkie?
A 54000ton Iowa at 20 scale ( as Nicolau) would be 54000/(20cubed) =6.75 tons,
and the smaller European WW2 battleships that conformed to the Washington...

RE: 5'pt boat finally done

Hi, I don't know if it would be any help as your boat is so different. For the PT boat of about 50 or 60 inches, to get good high speed run takes 700BB or 900 series motors, and usually fused at 15...

RE: 5'pt boat finally done

Hi, I have finished my PT boat and starting on large battleship.
This is not the right site for it, so why don't you email me directly on private email, and we can discuss these ( and many more )...

RE: 5'pt boat finally done

Hi Jose,
I am a bit surprised at the noise, but you are out of the water - you don't have the cabins covering the motors- and they don't have a jelly jacket full of water.
Also how well are the...

RE: 5'pt boat finally done

Hi Jose,
that looks as if you will have enough power, and then some! I am still working on my boat.
As we still seem to have trouble loading 2 or more pics, I'll send some, one at a time.

RE: 5'pt boat finally done

Jose, don't worry about what your wife thinks, just tell her "it's never too late to have a happy childhood".
When I retired my wife let me have the basement, and she took the rest of the house. ...

RE: 5'pt boat finally done

Jose,
I forgot, the first thing is actually make the motor mounts, with correct spacing, and epoxy them in place . Then do as above. If you do both things at once something will move! Don't ask...

RE: 5'pt boat finally done

Jose, don't panic!
There is a way to get everything lined up.
!st, make 2 rigid rod or tube substitutes for the coupling between the motor and shaft. Same length and hole diam.
2nd, drill a...

RE: 5'pt boat finally done

Hi Jose,
yes, I think your weight is about right and props a bit large, but you are after dramatic performance so I bet that will work. I don't know how long your batteries will last, but thats...

RE: 5'pt boat finally done

Hi Jose,
yes I think that solves the mystery. The books I have must give tare weight, without fuel or ammo or torpedoes. For your boat, 60tons/20cubed gives about 17pounds, and for mine, gives...

RE: 5'pt boat finally done

Jose,
yes, 20pounds sounds about right but the numbers for true to scale come out to 11pounds. So maybe the 38 ton number must be some kind of tare weight not operational weight. At 11 lbs I...

RE: 5'pt boat finally done

Hi Jose,
the scale size for props on your boat is not that big, you may even have too much power (is that ever possible). Or worse, too much weight, meaning add more batteries. But then it is...

RE: 5'pt boat finally done

OK Jose,
I made the machine several years ago as a modification of a plan set that I bought. It is still available, I think. But I modified it extensively. If you are interested we could go to...

Does anyone know how to stop/change these weird page sizings. It looks like the second pic spontaneously expands everything. I don't think I am doing anything different!

RE: 5'pt boat finally done

Hi Jose,
I made the torpedo racks on my CNC machine that I built for my model boats. Some of the pieces are very repetitive, like the torpedo rack sides,(16 identical pieces). I used double sided...

RE: 5'pt boat finally done

Hi Nicolau,
for torpedo tubes, try looking at Estes rocket body tubes!! There is a whole selection of sizes, and the tubes are very light. If you seal and paint them well they are very durable....

RE: 5'pt boat finally done

Hi Nicolau,
Yes, those 900 motors should work just fine, and increasing the voltage will give you loads of power. Be sure to set them in the hull very securely, as that is a lot of torque! did you...

RE: 5'pt boat finally done

Hi Jose,
yes I think that is good advice.
However I am using 700 motors. This is because the 700BB 12v motors can be run on a 3-pack battery, giving 22v, and the Electronize controllers can...

RE: 5'pt boat finally done

I forgot:
the fountains I used were "hand in hand", from Amazon, $7.95, the top breaks off from the base which holds the pump and other stuff. THey used a hot glue gun to assemble it, so it breaks...
