RE: Dumas kv38 Scarab

Hey Pure-

I would check with CaptRKO- he is out of the country right now but should be home soon. He has the full size Miami Vice 38kv. It is a beautiful boat! He'll send you pictures. The...

RE: Dumas Scarab 38kV Build from NIB Kit

Capt. RKO- I am still alive thank God! The market crash affected us badly, as it has most. My scarab is now wrapped up in bubble wrap, ready to be sold. I have not started the build. I still have...

Hey guys, I'm not dead! Just a lot of vacation time we squeezed into a very short August! I promise to keep everyone updated on the build, which should commence soon!!

Thanks!

RE: Set-up and Stuffing tube drilling

Thanks! I was going to ask you about the WD200 strut- how did she steer?? responsive?? I have the 7015/3 prop, I wonder how it will do with the Z-drive.

I still haven't decided on a motor-...

RE: Old School Dumas Scarab Resto

Awesome man- shoot some more pics- and a video to boot! My build is stalled due to family holidays and traveling, but should pick up in a week or so. I'll bring the thread back up to the top!

RE: Dumas Scarab 38kV Build from NIB Kit

Thanks Dave! I will certainly get to glassin' her in!! Those vents- I just used a little polishing wheel on my Dremel, some polishing paste, and they come out like chrome! You can choose to paint...

RE: Dumas Scarab 38kV Build from NIB Kit

Cool- thanks Randy! I just received 8 brass cleats, as well as tiny hinges for the hatches on the deck. This should be interesting!

RE: Set-up and Stuffing tube drilling

The Dumas Scarab is a semi-scale boat, not meant to be an all-out performer. The hull is so heavy in order to handle pretty rough chop. The last thing I want is to go 60 mph and flip the thing,...

RE: Dumas Scarab 38kV Build from NIB Kit

Trey- I struggled with this for hours the other night. I really like the one you are installing, but the S6's are way cool, and look so real. I would love to paint one gloss black, and put the...

RE: Dumas Scarab

Nice boats guys!! I've got the fever too- right now, I'm saving up for an MHZ drive, which costs more than the boat-aaarrggh. But it will look so scale. I've got my hatch cut, as well as the hull-...

RE: Old School Dumas Scarab Resto

The trimming was easy- no problems at all. The hatch has some warpage at the front dashboard- so I'll have to put some L-brackets on that to make it 90 degrees. I also cut out the arch slots too.

RE: Old School Dumas Scarab Resto

Got it man- thanks! I'll go ahead and order this. I'm dremeling the flash off the cowl and the hull tonight, probably going to glass in the transom doubler tonight.

Thanks!

RE: Old School Dumas Scarab Resto

Thanks man. I surely don't want to be a copy cat here! But the fact that it looks so scale, and the cost of it is justified since additional rudders are not required, does it for me.

How is...

RE: Old School Dumas Scarab Resto

Harvey- love the water pickups!! I've been struggling with what kind of drive/rudder system to get for this thing. Does that drive have good steering articulation? What effect will the bending...

RE: painting my boat

Dude- that is just SICK! Thanks for the advice. I may try just watercolors on paper for awhile, just get used to it.
Thanks!

Amsoil Saber for me for 2 years on a Homelite. Never a problem at all, and no smoking.

RE: painting my boat

Thanks Hemi- I was referring to the little Paasche brushes that one would use for scale models and such. Mine goes up to 100 psi, so that's plenty. Could anyone point me to the appropriate paints...

RE: Dumas Scarab 38kV Build from NIB Kit

Thanks Randy! I'll have to fabricate some stainless steel spines for the hatches themselves- you have three on each one, while other Wellcraft years have 4.

DO NOT SELL THAT ARCH! I read...

RE: Dumas Scarab 38kV Build from NIB Kit

Harvey- the picture I have in the instructions shows the rough unfinished arch- with a parallel line along the top 1" wide from front to back. The 38kV's I've seen have a bowed out section right at...

RE: painting my boat

Thanks. I have a 2 galllon compressor, but I can't justify spending 2-300 bucks on a compressor for an airbrush. Will my little compressor work with a brush I buy separately?? sorry for the noob...

RE: painting my boat

Is it possible to do those fades with a rattlecan?? I'm making a Scarab, and the side of the hull has three fades all the way to the transom. I don't have an airbrush- but I could get one!!

RE: Dumas Scarab 38kV Build from NIB Kit

LOL, that's great! I take it that the beautiful lady is the closest you have for "Tubbs"?? That'll do fine!!

A few quick questions about your boat:

1. Do your hatches open back to front,...

RE: Dumas Scarab 38kV Build from NIB Kit

Tidnab- that is hilarious! I'm definitely into the scale look- but that might be just a bit cheesy! I was thinking live chipmunks- little fellers scurrying all over the deck while slapping the...
