RE: C-119 Flying Boxcar ARF

Rod:

The pilot was Paul Mantz, he was killed while doing a "Filler" shot that was neither needed nor used. A great loss. It was a bad wind gust that got him, the skid dragging was secondary.

Please, no more PMs and emails - John's reference to a newsletter must have been to Saito Notes, there has never been a news letter here.

I'll get the member numbers up to date before long, patience please.

Best assembly lube is clean fresh castor oil mixed 50-50 with ATF, but it's messy. Straight ATF works fine, it's...

RE: COX "Pica Duelist" ARF

I did ask, Mike said they had no plan to continue production of the "Gluit" product. Shame, I'm down to one bottle myself.

Print reversal is definitely possible, that's why I had the other engine showing in the foreground. Note the intake and exhaust on it - opposite to the other engine. No photoshop on this...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

JonB:

From a conventional viewpoint, all Saito single cylinder engines have the exhaust coming out the right side. Some are straight, some are angled to the rear.

Unless you have a custom...

RE: Looking to build a twin, suggestions?

PiroD:

A twin can be just as easy to fly as a sport single, or it can be an airplane that Jimmy Doolittle wouldn't want to get near.

A very nice twin kit, easily built and very nice...

RE: Saito .82 / Will Not Idle

Justin:

Additional on the LS: In your post you say you've gone in 1/4 turn. You still have 2-3 turns to go. They are very rich at the initial setting.

RE: Saito .82 / Will Not Idle

Justin:

Your LS is PROBABLY, but not necessarily, still too rich. Turn it in 1/8 turn at a time and keep trying.

RE: Saito 120 Question

Allan:

OK, first we're going to solve the problem you noted in your first post, it has nothing to do with ABC/AAC, air bleed/TN, any of that. Your fuel tank is 'way too low. "If the engine is...

RE: Saito 120 Question

Finally we come to the cam shaft. No, you can't see it when the engine is assembled, but the later "High Lift" cam had to have the tappets raised to clear the taller lobes, so the tappet guides were...

RE: Saito 120 Question

Next we'll look at the cylinder construction. The older ones were ABC, larger and heavier than the later AAC cylinders. I think the ABC look better, but as I said, they are a good bit heavier.
