Jan, Die Fliegende Hollander:

I've brought a picture of your P-61 engine, and another of your B-17 engine here as a teaser for others to visit your site. Hope you don't mind.

Manfred:

Sam's plane has the very latest in AFCE systems - RNAV combined with auto-land, and the very newest part, auto-take-off. No doubt he has CAS in there too.

The F7F ARF from Cedar Hobbies isn't that far along, it will be a while before it is on the web site. Maybe I shouldn't have mentioned it. The drawings just went off to the builder about...

Re the F7F Tigercat. Cedar Hobbies has one under development, it's supposed to be a 40-46 size plane.

Sam:

Very sorry to hear that sir.

Hope it can be repaired, but from 30 feet? A lot of time, money, and skilled effort gone otherwise.

If you end up putting a new one together there's a...

RE: VQ P-61 CONTRUCTION

Sam:

At your stated rpm readings the pitch speed is about 18% higher (60 mph vs. 50 mph) with the four bladed props. If the engines will handle the greater load all should be well.

RE: VQ P-61 CONTRUCTION

Sam and Walt:

Check with your lodal friendly rotorhead modeler. He most likely has a special plier just for attaching and detaching ball links. A good one is expensive, $35-$40, but well worth...

RE: VQ P-61 CONTRUCTION

Sam:

The DuBro #367 is a single link set, #860 is a pack of 12. And yes, they are the ones I suggested.

Incidentally, they are exactly the same as the 4-40 ones except for the hole for the...

RE: VQ P-61 CONTRUCTION

Walt:

DuBro #860 is a package of 12 sets, heavy duty ball links for 2-56 rods. Number 861 is the same for 4-40. These include the ball, socket, socket head screw and a brass stand-off for the...

They would be twice as great if they were all mine.

I did have a couple, sold them for the money to buy the new pair almost three years ago now.

Just to whet your appetite and get the saliva flowing with drool falling on your tie, Technopower also has a nine cylinder just a hair larger in diameter than the 7B I showed you....

RE: VQ P-61 CONTRUCTION

Another note on the Techno 7B - without the ignition distributor it also is about 4 1/2" drive washer to the back of the engine.

Just wish Marc Linville would build them faster.

RE: VQ P-61 CONTRUCTION

Paul:

Except for one minor matter, here is THE engine for the P-61. The Technopower 7B. It will fit inside a 7" cowl, is a seven cylinder radial that will spin a 15x8 at 7500 rpm. Further, it's...

RE: VQ P-61 CONTRUCTION

Paul:

Red line on the 170R3 is 9500 rpm, you'd have to be careful with the 15x8. Maybe a three blade?

RE: VQ P-61 CONTRUCTION

Paul:

The Saito 170R3 radial will clear inside an 8 1/2" cowl with a little to spare. Expect about 8K rpm with a 16x8 on 15% fuel. I don't know if you'd consider it too heavy or not, it weighs...

You and Twinman have shamed me into admitting there is really a Saito 170 radial. It's a three cylinder, as I check it it's a little under 8 1/2" diameter and right at 4 1/2" drive washer...

RE: VQ P-61 CONTRUCTION

Mark:

The Saito FA-72 and FA-82 are just about 4" from the prop drive to the back of the carb. Should mount with no problem. The FA-80, 91 and 100 are roughly 4 1/2" so they should work too,...
