RE: Top Flite 1/7 P-51 Build

Corsair 9:

Thanks for the suggestion on the Century Jet 1/7 scale pilot figure. I ordered one and was very disappointed when I received it. It is made of some sort of rigid resin that looks...

RE: Top Flite 1/7 P-51 Build

Hi:

Where did you find a suitable pilot figure of the correct size?

Thanks,

RE: GROUP BUILD - Top Flite Giant Scale F4U Corsair

My Corsair is finally painted, and I have finished the cockpit. Now all I need is appropriate insignia and a pilot. I would appreciate any advice on where to buy appropriate graphics and a pilot. ...

RE: GROUP BUILD - Top Flite Giant Scale F4U Corsair

I have the FS TF-20 cowl, and I am ready to bend the cowl flaps. I have tried heating the fiberglass with heat sealing iron and a hot air gun, but neither seems to soften the resin enough to allow...

Thanks for the information. The Zenoah bell mount looks like the best way for me to go. I have some reservations about the isolation mount based on experience with smaller units,...

RE: GROUP BUILD - Top Flite Giant Scale F4U Corsair

It seems that the G-62 is by far the engine of choice for this airplane. But I have seen very little discussion of mounting the engine to provide the 2" of stand-off needed to place the thrust...

RE: GROUP BUILD - Top Flite Giant Scale F4U Corsair

The 4-1/2", 8-spoke wheels I ordered from Sierra turned out to be Robart products. They are beautiful, and appear to have bronze hubs. The axle diameter is 1/4".

Re Mort Rosenthal's Corsair with folding wings:

Mort told me his Corsair with folding wings weighs 35 pounds empty, and that the wing folding mechanisms alone weigh 2 pounds (see photo). In...

RE: GROUP BUILD - Top Flite Giant Scale F4U Corsair

George:

Thanks. I saw the Lado gear at the IMAA Giant Scale event at Castle AFB last summer. It appears to be very well made, and might be an excellent alternative to air for the mains. I...

I share your paranoia about air leaks. But I agree that every connection represents a potential leak. I currently plan to use a single large tank per the plans with an air valve for the...

RE: GROUP BUILD - Top Flite Giant Scale F4U Corsair

I would like to think that this discussion of alternative landing gear for the TF GS Corsair has been healthy for all, and I intend to continue it until Sierra has come back to me with their best...

RE: GROUP BUILD - Top Flite Giant Scale F4U Corsair

Thanks for your inputs. I am working with Sierra on a resolution to this problem.

While I appreciate the value of knowing what seems to always work - in this case, positioning the axles in line...

Gibbs #4:

See my reply to Bob re my gear geometry.

Sierra does not provide weight ratings for their gear. Besides, I'm sure the Meister Corsair requires longer struts than the 7-1/4"...

It may be time to bite the bullet.

I just made another full-size layout of the gear installation as it would be with Robart 148s mounted per the TF plans and with the Sierra retracts...

Yes. I am building a TF GS Corsair. The gear mounting beams are raised about 3/16" from the "stock" position and tilted down at the aft end about 3 degrees to keep the wheels below the...
