RE: cox 049 will not start

There is also a very tiny gasket at the center of the backplate where it connects with the tube leading to the needle valve. If that is lost or damaged you will not get any fuel draw. You can...

RE: Fuel for old engines

Just add enough caster to the fuel you can get to raise the oil level overall to 28%. The synthetic today isnt the same stuff we had to use in 1970.

RE: hinge tape nitro friendly?

I am a dinosaur... I like sewn hinges made from carpet thread... incredible flexibility easy to install once you have done one or two and inexpensive. I have been using them for 50 years and still...

RE: 1/2A engine availability

Cox is available from a Canadian company. They bought up all the inventory and are producing at least reed valve engines. AP makes a reasonably good Norvel clone. Norvel is again available from...

RE: Fuji .099 help?

My two cents worth. If it turns over do not take it apart. There is too much risk of damage to a gasket that may be hard to find a replacement for. Put a few drops of fresh fuel in the exaust...

RE: Fuel for Old Fox C /L Engines

Fox engines use old style iron/steel technology and take advantage of the castor building up varnish to protect the piston. Using blended fuel will strip the protective varnish and quickly reduce...

RE: COX .09 HOP UPS

Important to know... which Cox 09? If it is the TD just plan on 35% nitro with at least half the oil being castor and 20% oil. Something like SIG fuel... I would be very careful about the castor...

RE: Gilbert .074 Powered Ringmaster Gee Bee Z Variant

What a hoot! I have long enjoyed kit bashing and wondered how well foam board would hold up for glow fuel models. Keep us informed of your progress. If you have plans I would love a copy!

RE: wanting plans for a small spad c/l

Actually the Manwin trainer with a good black widdow will do all the round manuvers pretty well. With two of them you can even fly combat and not worry about breaking a plane. Lots of fun. We...

RE: Looking for a Source for Coroplast Sheets

I have cultivated friendships with a few local gas stations (buying gas and taking a minute to talk to staff) that have coroplast signs. They let me know when they are going to take them down and...

RE: foam wing

Pretty easy to cut your own foam... if you search youtube with the phrase "cutting foam wings" there may be enough there to get you started. That search also will bring you to a web site my son set...

RE: Glow plug life?

Back in the 60's (and internally the cox engines are still in the 60's) Cox wouldn't honor the waranty if you didnt run oil that was all castor and 20%.... so my guess is that you will get more life...

RE: Ace Foam Wings

I have built combat style models using the constant cord wings for CL. Because they have a lifting airfoil they will turn much better inside loops than outside but if you allow for about twice as...

RE: Found a couple of old kits....

Well... I built both when I was about 16. That would have been 42 years ago. Use a little fiberglass tape when you install the firewall and wrap it from about top midwing over the firewall to...

RE: 1960 Fox Combat Special: Orig. Box, Manual & Even A Service Bulletin!

DONT OPEN THE ENGINE! Parts like gaskets are not easily available so opening up the engine only guarantees that you will not be able to put it back together correctly. Instead bolt a prop to the...

RE: 1960 Fox Combat Special: Orig. Box, Manual & Even A Service Bulletin!

On ebay with the box and lightly used these sometimes sell for $60 to $120. If the engine shows signs of hard use broken head fins, bent needle valve, drilled out or broken motor mounts they can...

RE: Found a couple of old kits....

Great flying with a strong black widdow or golden bee style engine. A little weak in the nose. I have a couple of the molded wings but no kits. You do have to be careful to build them so that...

RE: Cox 8cc aluminum tanks for .049 engine now available

Yea! Thank you for making these available again. And I am perfectly happy that this is without the stunt venting as I can make this work just fine for most models.
Thanks again!

RE: OK .074 recommendation

APC makes a special prop for .15 size combat that is 6.5X4.5. You might give that one a try. The OK isnt a stump puller... more like a Cox reed engine that can turn larger props.

RE: Cox Texaco Jr

Texaco is an event where you try and get the most time out of the least amount of fuel. So the engines were set up to run large props slowly. This engine is set up to run slowly and modifying it...
