I'd like to agree with Campgem's point. I think the key to keeping a field box battery working for a good, long time is to keep it topped up. It's not as important whether you top it up at .3 amps...

I use a 2 amp car charger to top up my Hobbico 12v 7000Mah field box battery. My first one lasted 5 years.
