You should upgrade the diffs to the newer X SS style aluminum type or at a minimum, upgrade to the standard 4 gear diffs. The trans can take the additional grunt of a hotter engine, so no mods...

The Axial is the better engine. They are on ebay for less than the $120 you see advertised in the magazines. It's not uncommon at all to snag one for $100 on ebay. There's probably a few on there...
