RE: Top Flite 1/7 P-51 Build

My fish scale broke, but if I remember correctly it weighs about 9 3/4lbs. With the O.S. .61 and 12-6 prop it has plenty of power for big loops and other maneuvers. I was throttling back to about 75...

RE: Top Flite 1/7 P-51 Build

For some entertainment in the thread I thought you all would enjoy my TF P-51 story. I bought my TF P-51 back in July of 1997 and did the first flight after 1 and 1/2 months of building, first flight...

RE: Top Flite 1/7 P-51 Build

I flew my stock TF P-51 for 10 years using the wire joiner, so I guess that could be called long term.

RE: Top Flite 1/7 P-51 Build

I'm not familiar with that engine, but I think it has less HP than an O.S. .61FX, not really sure if I would want to do that but it's your call.

You're welcome and thanks, but as...

RE: Top Flite 1/7 P-51 Build

OK, I'll tell the story of my first Gold Edition TF P-51. I got the kit at Rebel Hobbies in San Antonio on August 1997 and the first flight was on Sept 20, 1997. I built it completely stock just like...

RE: Top Flite 1/7 P-51 Build

I have always taped the mounts out and they work great, not like the Chinese plastic mounts supplied in most arf's. You were destroying a good mount drilling them out like that! My first TF P-51 I...

RE: Top Flite 1/7 P-51 Build

The problem with changing the mount and using a 90 deg retract is the limited wing thickness. Buy the 85 deg, much easier.

RE: Top Flite 1/7 P-51 Build

No,there is abig difference between the Gold and theRed Box version. Just for kicks here is a picture of my Red Box P-51 I converted to the D, this was WAY back in the early 80's, had a K&B .61 side...

RE: Top Flite 1/7 P-51 Build

Thank you Riddle! I'll see how the video thing goes, I've already got 11 subs, not easy to do with RC based Youtube channels! If my videos help one person to have more enjoyment with their hobby then...

RE: Top Flite 1/7 P-51 Build

Good man Tim![sm=thumbup.gif] I was hoping you would say what you did. I personally like 1/8 scale, it's a nice size on the old WWII fighters. I can't wait for your site, to see what you are up too! ...

RE: Top Flite 1/7 P-51 Build

What 3 view did you use as a reference to design and build the Mustangs or did you use a 3 view? I'll only pay $250 for a kit if it's very close to scale because just making a new cowl and changing...

RE: Top Flite 1/7 P-51 Build

The servo's are not that far from the stock location, so I don't think it will matter to much. The P-51 has more than enough nose to compensate! I did not make the cockpit go all the way to the wing,...

RE: Top Flite 1/7 P-51 Build

Seems like I have always had a TF P-51! I'm still flying the one I built in 1997! I used to fly the old Red Box P-51 converted to the D and painted in Miss America markings, that was in 1984. Anyway,...

RE: Top Flite 1/7 P-51 Build

Yes, just use the standard direct hook with bent wire to the center section. I did this on my Royal P-51 and I'm using it on my new Top Flite P-51B. This mod is a great weight saver also.

RE: Top Flite 1/7 P-51 Build

I've been flying my Top Flite P-51 with one aileron servo in the center section for 10 years now, stopped counting flights about 5 years ago at 300 and it's never had anything but a scrape on the...
