RE: WACO YMF

Aside from the the 2 main formers being in 2 die cut halves in the 1/5th instead of one piece as in the smaller one and the number of sheets changing from 2 to 4 and the vac formed bits evolving...

RE: WACO YMF

I'll put another way. By the time a Pica Waco gets enlarged to 1/4 scale it is going to leave a lot to be desired. The 1/5th makes a nice looking model but is merely an enlarged 1/6th. The 1/5th...

RE: WACO YMF

Bill

What do you see as a benefit to enlarging the Pica to 1/4 vs i.e. the 1/4 Pepino Waco? The Pepino is afordable. I found that the enlarging fees per square foot were prohibitive and that...

RE: WACO YMF

I don't know the diameter of the "U" engine Continental or Wright 210-220 hp but Fiberglass Specialties makes a ring cowl 12.25 DIA x 5 deep. It is in their Radial Cowl section and marked by an *. ...

RE: WACO YMF

That looks great rj! There is a curious double standard for lack of a better term that exists when powering biplanes of this size. I have several 1/3 scale Pitts Specials at a 69" span that with a...

RE: WACO YMF

[/quote]Hi Bill and Waco Brotherhood, I like Jim have a GP Bipe, in fact two, but have fallen in love with a Waco UBF-2 ( Pic attached ). I am working on drawing my own plans at about 1/5 scale. I...

RE: WACO YMF

They were inspired by the Franklin Waco. I've heard guys who own it praise it. The seat is back too far to my eye. The red one preceded the black and silver one and I saw the Black/silver full...

RE: WACO YMF

It's not pretty as the YMF to many, myself included but there is more reason than curb appeal to build a model. Only a 3 dozen U/YMF-3/5 Wacos were produced from Dec 1934 to Sept 1937 and that was...

RE: WACO YMF

RE: WACO YMF

Ah, the reworking. That's a major reason for scratchbuilding for me. Some kits are just great. Some on purpose, some by chance, but the ones I cut for myself keep getting better. This thread is...

RE: WACO YMF

If you take the positive incidence out of the stab, on the next one, it won't pitch to gear on knife edge. This is with a 1.20 4 cycle.

RE: WACO YMF

My opinion is to get the 1/6th if that is what you want, while it's no secret that the bigger they are the better they fly, you won't be dissapointed. Templates and plans are great. I only build...

RE: WACO YMF

I believe that if the design could be copied as is. The trademarks, well, you know that part. No one has exclusivity or a patent of the scale or how one piece of wood is glued or situated to...

RE: WACO YMF

I'm not really sure how much value folks attach to the origins and history of the 1:1 scale subject. I hope that these attachments are out of the park, interest wise. It hadn't occurred to me that...

This is the full scale F model that started it all for Pica. YMF-3 NC14031 It is the one that Dave Platt originally flattered further by modelling it. I looked over the thread again for the...

RE: WACO YMF

I bought a Platt 1/6th Waco kit. I understand it was one of the very first. The die-cutting was superb. I didn't have the heart to build this collector's item so in my usual fashion I traced every...
