RE: Top Flite Cessna 310 posted

That seems excesive, I agree. I'm sure all the redesigning and retooling costs someone big $$$ so they pass it on to us. That's capitolism, said my 9th grade Social Studies teacher. Besides, if you...

RE: Top Flite Cessna 310 posted

My guess is that they went back to the drawing board to figure out how to make the wing stronger. Tower was taking a bottomline beating with all the broken wing replacements. I bet we see a...

RE: Top Flite Cessna 310 posted

I've always tightened my prop nuts clockwise when viewed from the front, but my props have always spun counter-clockwise when viewed from the front. I guess I've been doing it wrong all these years....

RE: Top Flite Cessna 310 posted

All great info guys.

I cracked my wings too. I'm embaraased to say, but at least 5 times. (Very rough grass field) Crack repairs, not new sets.... over the last two years..

I've ordered a...

RE: Top Flite Cessna 310 posted

I drilled two tube sized holes from the wheel well through the nacelle then turned the tubes to follow the servo leads up and out. It's easy to do. I actually have 4 tubes per wing panel because I...

RE: Top Flite Cessna 310 posted

Yes, they look recessed so the rudder servo can clear the wing. If you mount the rails on the top (while looking at it upside-down) you'll see that won't work. Also I Used Canopy glue to install the...

RE: Top Flite Cessna 310 posted

I'm putting the final touches on my 310. I should be ready to maiden it on Saturday, weather permitting. The male plug from the switch to the receiver cracked and fell apart. Now I have to try to...

RE: Top Flite Cessna 310 posted

Are you talking about the cabin door or the hatch(s)? I would be cautious about opening a cabin door. That could really weaken the structure. I'm thinking of the twisting loads from the tail during a...

RE: Top Flite Cessna 310 posted

Good luck with you new project! These are enjoyable to build. I'm on #3 now and they keep getting better. Here are some of the "mods" I did on #3.

I uncovered the wings and horz stab parts. I...

RE: Top Flite Cessna 310 posted

Back to the wing problem... I've been through 2 right wings and 1 left wing. All damaged from diffrent landings. true I fly from a semi-rough grass field, but still they were smooth landings. I find...

RE: Top Flite Cessna 310 posted

You are right though, mine are a little on the over-kill side. I've lost airplanes from overheating before because I was more concerned about looks and less concerned about function. Live and learn.

RE: Top Flite Cessna 310 posted

5 sq.in. is marginal at best. If you are using 20%-30% nitro, or plan to fly in warm weather, you have to make your exit holes bigger that what they suggest.

Because of the shape of the cowl,...

RE: Top Flite Cessna 310 posted

For one thing, I can tell you for sure, your exit holes are too small. They need to be atleast twice as big and you need to round off the corners to prevent cracking. Use a dremmel with a sanding...

RE: Top Flite Cessna 310 posted

Yeah, You have to remember you need at least 3X the exit hole area as the entrance hole area. Or more to be safe. If the hole is too small the cooling air has no where to to go and it deadheads into...

RE: Top Flite Cessna 310 posted

It's not paint, it's gelcoat. At least the White is. The blue is paint, I think. It shouldn't be a problem if you carefully sand the entire fuse with 220 grit. I was thinking of covering the entire...

Sorry for your loss.. That's three 310's down in the last week. At least two were because of an engine out situation.

I think it's safe to say that rudder proficency is manditory...

No bad habbits. It flys nicely. Some guys who flew both at the event (I hand off the radio to other pilots alot) said the Beech flies better then the Cessna. I thought so too.

The only problem...

I'm sorry to hear you guys lost your 310's. I'm sure the second one will be better than the first. You know, with the "Learning Curve" and all. I hope the really expensive parts survived.:(
