If the tank is not isolated from the airframe with foam you can get vibrations in the tank that cause air bubbles. Air bubbles in your fuel will lean out the mixture and cause over heating. ...

Is your tank mounted in foam and your prop balanced? I had this issue and it turned out to be foaming in the tank.

With the VP30 you will have to lean it WAY out from what the manual says. My high speed is around 1 to 1 1/4 turns out and I'm not sure where the low is - I just kept turning it in until it idled...
