RE: Hangar 9 40 Size Piper Pawnee!!!

I use Hitech 225's for ailerons, flaps, and each elevator half. Elevator servos mounted in tail for weight and balance. Never a problem with any of them.

No experience with a 61FS for power. ...

RE: CDI gr8flyer55

Some posts seem to be disappearing after getting e-mail notifications of them. What's going on?

RE: CDI gr8flyer55

Regarding changing forums, I do not spend a lot of time on model-related forums. This thread is about it. However, I occasionally go to RC Groups and its section on DIY electronics. That might be...

RE: CDI gr8flyer55

That was one of my thoughts too, but it cannot be done with a simple comparator, absent a lot of hysteresis. If you add in an ADC, then you may end up changing a lot of things.

RE: CDI gr8flyer55

One way might be to put a signal on the switch circuit, say 10 KHz. Watch transitions. If transitions are not seen for 200 uS (or whatever period you chose), kill the ignition.

RE: Handy thread chart

Oh, please, let's don't start that discussion. Which of the several metric systems do you prefer? If you want logical standardization, stay with the SAE system. There is only one standard.

RE: Handy thread chart

They look like the maximum major diameters for common screw sizes used in models. Here's a little more complete table for SAE:

RE: CDI gr8flyer55

@gr8flyer55,

I don't recall whether you have any programmer. I used to have a PicStart Plus programmer that was easily adapted to ICSP. All I had to do was keep the connecting lines less than...

RE: CDI gr8flyer55

Well, I can agree with that in the main. I was talking in general that when you have a choice, either use a keyed connector or make the connection fool proof, in case it is inserted wrong. I...

RE: CDI gr8flyer55

Maybe you haven't tried hard enough? ;)

Most of the motherboard connections are "keyed" in some way. That is, the receptacle and plug are not symmetrical. A simple pinheader and in-line...

RE: CDI gr8flyer55

Here's a small suggestion from a hobbyist perspective. Servos used to have ground the middle pin, signal and V+ were the outer pins of a 3-pin plug. That was instant death to the servo, if it...

RE: Hangar 9 40 Size Piper Pawnee!!!

It's not paint, but Ultratrim (HANU82700) will match quite well. It is quite thin and would be hard to tell from paint at any distance.

RE: CDI gr8flyer55

Hi John,

I have actually never sent a PCB out to be manufactured. I have thought about it many times, but end up DIY. Advanced Circuits is US based and advertises US manufacturing...

RE: CDI gr8flyer55

Considering the two construction options < SMD and double-sided > separately, I prefer SMD every time over through hole. I dread drilling lots of holes; although, I am set up well to do it. ...

RE: Hangar 9 40 Size Piper Pawnee!!!

I have an OS70 FS mounted to my Pawnee. Absolutely no modification to the mount to accommodate that, and it does not stick out more than normal. Not quite sure what you mean. (I did reinforce the...

RE: CDI gr8flyer55

Assembly versus C discussions for newbies (I include myself as a newbie) are like discussing which is "better" Metric or Imperial measures. They never end. Each has its place. The arguments...

RE: CDI gr8flyer55

I wrote a little program (Assembly) last Winter for a 12F683 to take the PWM from a Memsic accelerometer, convert it to angle inclination and transmit that angle to a 2X16 serial LCD. The input was...

RE: CDI gr8flyer55

The newer chips are all supported by the PicKit3. You can get the OEM version, adapter boards and cables off ebay for only a little more than the programmer itself from DigiKey or Microchip. I got...

RE: Hangar 9 40 Size Piper Pawnee!!!

I will have to try it, but I am not surprised it happens. In the days of rudder only, we had lots of dihedral, and full rudder (all we had) made the nose drop. In fact, doing that for a full turn...

RE: CDI gr8flyer55

If I get time, I will try LT Spice. Its problem will be the inductor too, but I will wing it. It will not be until the weekend at least.

RE: CDI gr8flyer55

I use just the simple and free MPLab simulator. Since Proteus is far more powerful, can you model the whole circuit including the inductor and diode, not just the PIC part?

RE: CDI gr8flyer55

Cool. Not so long ago (I was still in school), we used hot-needle galvanometers to record very fast data, like data from a mass spectrometer; same principle. Besides the instruments being enormous...

RE: CDI gr8flyer55

That's a great idea. 3 m/s (about 11 Km/hr) should give holes about 1 mm apart. Besides, it would be a fun experiment. John

RE: CDI gr8flyer55

Not quite. If you had the original design without the diode, the PIC could give multiple signals and you would still just get a single spark. The ST-Thomson application note is quite interesting. ...

RE: CDI gr8flyer55

I don't believe the LED monitor is anything more than a trigger pulse monitor. That is, it really doesn't measure the spark.
