Always extended to full length. Curled back inside the fuselage is just like cutting it. The aerial is a tuned length for the radio frequency, any change and the range will reduce.

Power doesn't actually fly the thing, Thrust does. Pick an engine that will swing a large diameter, low pitch prop. That eliminates high revving motors, or at least those that need to rev to get...
