RE: My rebuilt Tower Hobbies Kaos back in the air!

My TH Kaos has become my favorite.

Its powered with a GMS 40 and a 10-5 prop. It seems to have plenty of power here at 5600 ft.

The plane goes to the field in the back of my truck...

RE: Maiden flight...how do you trim

I've maidened three plane by myself; two kits and an ARF.

I'm pretty much still a beginner.

Here's what I did:

First, balance your plane per the instructions.

Second, set the...

RE: GMS Engine??

I have three GMS engines; a .32 on an LT-25, a .40 on a TH Kaos and a .76 on a 4*60.

They have been excellent engines for me.

I have, however, replaced the glow plug that came with the...

RE: prop balancing

I have one of those balancers that you hold between your fingers. It seems to work well.

I was surprised to discover that most new props need balancing. It reduces vibration significantly.

RE: Rv4-40 now a memory

I always have a plastic bag to pick up all the pieces.

Have not had to use it YET.......

I think having all (or most of) the pieces would help in re-construction - for patterns if nothing...

Hope not!

RE: My offical order

Rubber bands?

My LT-40 ARF wings were bolted on with two nylon bolts.

I think the kit LT-40 uses rubber bands.

Don't think you need them unless they're for something other than wings....

I've been having good luck with the OS A3 in my GMS engines (.32, .40 and a .76)

RE: -not- starting on a "trainer"

I didn't find flying a 4* much more difficult than my LT-40 trainer.

If you find a good instructor and have a buddy box go for the "sport" plane.

I would avoid scale and warbirds though.

RE: .25 trainer

I built an LT-25 just for something to do one winter a couple of years ago. A friend donated the covering. It was an easy, fun build.

I put a .32 GMS engine and pieced together a flight pack...

RE: New pilot

I've tried in vain to get my newphews interested in RC planes & other things.

They seemed bored with it.

Glad you have a youngster to teach RC!

RE: Do I need to move on?

Chopper Man,

Fly the Kaos!!

I think it flies better (and just as easy) than my LT-40 that I learned to fly on or my LT-25 trainer.

Just do it!!

RE: Evo .46 engine troubles

Sounds like its lean on the high speed needle or, maybe, your fuel tank is too low or, you have some other fuel system problem.

You might have to remove the limiter pins on both needles so you...

RE: Self taught

I think I read that Clyde Cessna built his first plane in 1916 (or there abouts) AND

He taught himself how to fly it!!

Now THAT'S scary!

RE: landing on rough field

put big wheels on your plane.

It'll probably be alright.

You might have some "nose overs" so you might also keep a few spare props around.

Or...you could roll it with one of those...

RE: Help choosing a second plane after crashing

I'll second the Kaos recommendation. I bought one with an engine on one of those TH deals. I think I got both the plane & engine (free shipping) for about $135.

Its become my favorite. Fits in...

RE: KADET LT-25 BUILD

I built an LT-25 last year and powered it with a GMS .32 engine.

Its really a nice flying plane. In fact, I like the way it flies over my LT-40 with an Evo .46NT. Uses less fuel too.

It...

RE: What second plane?

Well, you'll hear alot of opinions on this subject so I may as well chime in.

My second plane was a kit built 4*60. A great choice.

Something else you might consider is a Tower Hobbies...

RE: Images - Bev & Joel Flying A Trainer

Bev,

I really like my Evo .46NT. Have not had any trouble with it except for the one incident.

It starts easy, is reliable and, compared to my GMS engines, is oh so quiet!

I'll check...

RE: Images - Bev & Joel Flying A Trainer

Bev,

Funny thing about these Evolution engines. My .46 NT on my Sig LT-40 reved up all by itself after a perfect landing (got lucky) and crunched a wing into a ground barrier. I had it thottled...

Sounds kinda like my training experience.

A few flights with an instructor (mostly unreliable), some sim time and I was off on my own. Did OK.

A little damage here and there and a broken...

RE: Give me your opinion's !

I think when you're talking about 40 and 60 size planes (and larger), the electrics get expensive; especially the batteries.

Of course there are advantages going electric but I LOVE the smell of...

RE: Can airplanes glow/gasser be said as TOYS or not??

Ha! I've shown the wife my construction manuals for my RC planes where it says "NOT A TOY" but she still thinks they are "toys".

Of course they are, but so is my 4 WD truck, my motorcycles,...

RE: 4.8v or 6.0v rx battery power

Since a servo is a "motor load" it draws the current it needs to produce the torque on the shaft - regardless of voltage.

As has already been mentioned, at a given torque, the motor will draw...
